700mW of 635nm Red - SWEET!

I just got a couple of 635nm diodes in from DTR and of course I had to play with them. I was going to push one as hard as I could, but then saw RHD's post about finding 800mA to be a sweet spot, at least with the one(s) he's been playing with, and I decided to go with that on this one because I was kind of anxious to see the beam color and strength. And, I still have another I can torture test. :D

So, 800mA it was. I put it in an SH-032 host with a frlexdrive and G1 lense. I woluld have liked to have tested with a glass Aixiz too, but the only ones I had got stolen last week with all my other laser stuff. Aty least I'm pretty sure this is a G1. I don't mess with reds much, but I'm pretty sure this ain't an Axiz.

Anyway, this diode is incredible! The beam and dispersion aren't worth a crap, but a red beam that you can see in a well lit room kind of makes up for it, and it is definitely more orange than a 660nm. Here is a beam shot and the LPM graph:

Damn, peaks at almost 750mW

Yep I know they seem to keep increasing on Cyparagon's graph up to 1A but I feel they shift in wavelength pretty quick and drop output @ 1A too fast for a portable. If the diode was cooled maybe 1A but 800mA is pretty much what I have been suggesting for the max current.

Anyway nice one. Looks by the numbers you may have gotten one of the freaks. That one is about close to the powers of the one I did the testing on and the one lazeerer has. Very nice.:D

I built a personal one myself set to 750mA but it is only giving 500mW.:cryyy: Still beautiful though.:D

Remember, this is a G1 lense though.

And thanks have to go out to DTR for providijng the host too, cause if it weren't for him being gracious enough to offer it to me, I'd still be sitting here looking at it through the antistatic bag and waiting on something to show up to put it in.

I don't even have a modular heatsink laying around that I could have used to test it. But, I've now got one of those on the way too.

I actually noticed a fast dropoff over 1W as well. Before I soldered the diode leads to the flexdrive I couldn't resist bumping the current up a bit and LPM'ing it at 1A. I got a bit over 850mW, but it dropped FAST. So, I decided to go ahead and back it down to 800mA and finish the build.

Do you mean the 650-G-1? If it is a 405-G-1 it should pass the same light as the ones that we tested with.

See how power continuously drops on the plot? That is caused by nothing but heat. Keep that thing cool in a nice temp controlled host, and you'd have 750mws the whole time it was on.

In portable hosts, these diodes will literally drop in mws every time a second passes.

Seeing that... I absolutely can't wait for the 500mW diodes... that's a big reason I sold so many of my other lasers:p

Yes, it was a 650 G1. I also had a 405 G1 but that was in the 750mW 405nm that vanished with everything else.

What happened was this little piece of S#$t kicked in my door last week and stole all my lasers, and today I realized that he also made off with my laptop computer. And, I know who the punk is too, but don't have his last name!

Sorry to hear that man. I have had people try to break into my house twice. The first time I wasn't home and they got some electronics but the second time was during the day (when most robberies occur because people are at work) but I was home and the little dirtbag found himself at the business end of my shotgun. He nearly pissed himself. I made him sit down on the floor while I called the cops so not only did he not get to rob me but he also got arrested and charged with home invasion ( or whatever the equivalent in NY is) and attempted robbery while in possession of a weapon. Either way I know how it feels to have your shit stolen.

Yeah it sucks! I got home just after the little bastard got away too. My downstairs neighbors called 911 when they heard him kicking the door in and when I got home the cops were still here, 5 minuted earlier and I would have got the little prick and beat him to a bloody pulp.

BTW, I beleive the weapon made yours a federal crime that carries a minimum sentence of 5 years in prison.

I know he didn't do any federal time but he was convicted. He took a plea with the DA and he got 5-7 years i think it was a minimum of 5 years with no more than 7. That sucks that you got home right after here was there that shit is so frustrating are you able to file an insurance claim?

No on the insurance claim. I stopped carrying renters insurance around 15 years ago when a water pipe broke in my apartment flooded it and did around $5,000 in furnituredamage and the insurance company refused to pay the claim.

After paying for insurance for nearly 20 years and never having to file a claim, then them denying a legitimate claim and telling me to sue the apartment complex, I decided why pay for something tht the company has no intention of honoring.

Yeah, I could have gone to another company, but even if I had the money I would have paid in insurance over the last 15 years would have probably been more than the cost to replace everything that was stolen.

That's the problem with the insurance industry in general. You pay into it for years, but if something does happen... you're still screwed.

The people running health insurance especially piss me off... I mean how does a person go to sleep after denying claims on cancer patients?

Better off paying just the bare minimum required by law... if $hit hits the fan... as you discovered... insurance won't help at all.

I couldn't agree with you more. A friend of mine whose house was destroyed during katrina was screwed over by the insurance companies (like many other people) he and most people had insurance that covered wind damage from hurricanes but the companies denied those insurance claims because they said the flood damage didn't count. It is truly sickening that insurance companies get away with treating people the way they do. In New Orleans the hurricane caused the flooding so how could they say that hurricane insurance doesn't include flooding DUE TO THE HURRICANE!!. I have always felt that there is a special place in hell for insurance companies. Like infinitus said I don't know how a person can sleep at night after denying a cancer patients claims for some BS reason despite the fact that the person has paid thousands and thousand of dollars there entire life.
