MISTERWILLING got a new TO-3 635nm diode w/FAC included.

He wanted to test the power and focus it to a beam for a scanner projector project he is working on.

First we checked the power with my Scientech meter.

It registered 560mw @ 1.5 amps.

Next was the focusing tests. It was outputting the typical red pattern after just the FAC lens:

First lens had 1 3/8" focal length. It gave us a fairly round 3/16" beam projected across the room.

Then he tried this 25mm lens with the 5/8" focal length. This one seemed to do the best job of a nice round beam (~1/8"). He is working on a machined mount for that lens.

Board member sbdwag is also trying the 25mm on an 808nm 2.8 watt power C-mount.

Awesome. I'm lookin for a high power red or IR C-mount right now as well and there are quite a few of them for awesome prices on ebay right now.

O.K., I took some more photos tonight while MISTERWILLING and I were doing some more Hi-Power lens testing.

This is the new 1/2" thick copper TO-3 heatsink he machined:

And here is the 1/8" diameter 560mw beam shot burning thru his kitchen cabinet:

And no, I don't see any "4-leaf clover splash".

He is playing with his TEC controller now to get long term stability.

HEURESCIENCES, the diode is dead now, not sure why. I think I let the hotside of the TEC get too warm. I was monitoring the temp of the diode which was not rising but for what ever reason the output droped down to about 10%. It was a sad day.
