just quick guestion about 22x dvd drives extracted diode. What current should be fine for it, about 300mw with plastic lens(i have heard it can output that much) :)

The current you drive it at is measured in ma, not mw. Mw is the output strength of the laser. If I understand you right, you're asking what amperage you should drive a 22x diode at. People have been running 20x diodes at 420ma with good heatsinking no problem, so I'd say that with a good heatsink you can go to 450ma or so. Although it depends on how long you want it to live also ;) I read somewhere on here that somebody was running his at 500ma without problems.
If the info I gave is wrong, I hope the great laser gods of this forum can correct me. I'm relatively new to lasers so give me some slack.

Yes, i know mw is power rating and ma is current, but i meaned that i want to get 300mw output power with the current of something, so if i put current to 450ma i should get at least 300mw output power? :-?

300mW with an acrylic lens is a bit of a tall order... You'll get that high with a meredith glass lens for sure, but an acrylic aixiz lens would likely drop things to the 250mW range.

Anyways, the diode in the 22x's is the same diode as is found in 20x's and some 18x's... It's the Long Open Can we're always talking about.. Most people around here drive them around 400mA, with 420mA being the max accepted "safe"(ish) current to drive them.. Some people have run them as high as 500mA, though they've used active cooling (TEC's) to keep them safe at those currents.

i think i set the current around 400-420ma with acrylic lens, cause 250mw is just fine for my project i go with acrylic lens and not meredith :) Thanks
