I have an FAP 800 module rated 806 nM. It has a fiber coupled output and at 20 Amps drive, I can light charcoal at about 2".
I have machined two lens holders for the output. One has a glass Aixiz lens and the other has a 0.50" FL Glass lens CxCC. I'm hoping to obtain an expander focusable output but no matter what I put in front of these lens holders, I can't get a good beam over about 10".
I know the output from this is "trash" but is there a way to redemption?
Damn, this thing will light up a green DPSS head real nice !!!

Man that looks cool! What are you getting out of it, something like 15W or so?

A fiber coupled unit, usually (not all, but usually) have fibers from the diode to the connector, or a light guide ..... the diode is, basically, not right rear the coupler, the light is drived there .....

I mean, take as example these packages, they usually have a laser diodes bar (a power bar made with more diodes in parallel, one near the other), where each diode is coupled with a single fiber, and then all the fibers are coupled together in the "emission" zone of the output fiber connector .....

Not a point source like a single diode, then ..... but a slightly diverging beam made from all the individual beams coupled one near the other ..... i think you can focus it to a point for burn, but i think also is very difficult to obtain a good "beam" as usually is from a diode, sorry ..... maybe using a calibrated lens array, kike as example, a positive lens that focus all in a single point, and then a negative lens that realign them parallels, but with a less diameter ..... but may be really difficult to build it at hobby level, probably it can require custom lenses (and, ofcourse, cooled and heat-resistant AR coated lenses, too)

Since I don't have my 50 Amp supply completed, I'm getting only about 8 watts at present. Sometimes, the lenses I use show the fiber output -- about 15 of them in a clover leaf pattern. So far, I have been using a ~1" FL lens for the output and a ~5" FL for the focusing lens. I think I'll try your suggestion of a -FL to see what it will do.

Thanks & :san:

Hi HMike,

i have the same idea as you with this diode.
Dou you have news?
What's the result using the 1" and 5" lenses?
I'm interested to know all above your experience...

Thanks in advance

Mike, your a inventive type of guy so I figured I'd show you what I've done to create a lens holder for the FAP laser diodes. Now, these are tapped for a typical aixiz lens and if you have the $$ to burn you can buy lenses that are DESIGNED for this wavelength of light from thorlabs and screw them right into these little beasties. I've tried retailing these, but not many people are interested in purchasing them.
