Jayrob reported good results a few days ago on this new BluRay lens in this thread:
http://www.laserpointerforums.com/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1236386077

I have been working on this great BluRay lens and Aixiz assembly for several weeks now.

This is a picture of the stock original glass lens disassembled:

glasslens1.jpg

The plano-convex lens on the right has the most curvature.
This is the assembly before several modifications for the new aspherical 405nm high NA lens and retaining ring.

You power-hungry types...
are going to love this new modified lens for both BluRay and Reds.

After removing the brass lens retainer, the new high NA lens can be installed the Aixiz housing.

Install the lens and optional steel retainer back into the housing.

Tried the new lens on my Red open can tonight.

Burning was much improved (25% more power)...

but I was most impressed with the tight collimated beam in the night sky.

Re: New High NA Lenses for the Aixiz Module

Daniel;

It is a aspheric single lens which is coated for 400nm to 600nm.

It has a high NA to gather more power from the laser diode.

It has a very short focal length to collimate the beam before it becomes larger.

It is compensated for the LD window, which gives it a better focus (unlike the #330 lens you tested).

It increases power over my new Aixiz plastic lens 30% @ 405nm.

Since it is a glass lens, it can withstand far more laser power with out degradation.

Only drawback is the price, around $32 (lens) or $54 (assy) .

But, it should provide more power for several Laser Diode upgrades.

What stinks even more... is that it costs $50.00 cnd shipped for 1 lens to Quebec... :'(
For the price of 4 lenses delivered I can buy an 8X DVD Burner... ::)

Jerry;

I know Canada can be difficult.

I assume there is no duty on the lenses.

Is it the brokerage fee that adds to your cost ??

At 1.24 exchange rate it should be ~ $40 for lens cost.

It is kind of like a higher-power diode.

Once you get used to the beam, you can't go back.

Re: New High NA Lenses for the Aixiz Module

Jake;

The new high NA lens has a diameter of 6.33mm.

Roughly 1/4''.

Lens Power Testing

Set up a test layout today with my Scientech Laser Power Meter.

Each test was performed with the lens focused to infinity.
Red Open Can –  Aixiz Plastic Lens  -230 mw
 High NA Glass Coated – 288 mw
  25% Power Improvement
Blu Ray 803     - Aixiz Plastic Lens  - 114 mw
High NA Glass Coated – 148 mw
  30% Power Improvement

These results are consistent with the results Jayrob obtained in this thread:

Received my lens today, thanks.

Power reading of my 6x went up from 165 mW with Aixiz plastic lens to 216 mW (30% increase). Wow.

The lens is mounted in the plastic Aixiz holder, I used clear epoxy to attach it.

Well, I did buy the bare lens and put it in a plastic Aixiz lens nut. Should have stated that more clearly.

I think you can buy the lens in a lens holder (modified brass Aixiz, IRC) over in the Buy, Sell and Trade section.

Quantile;

I am impressed that you got the same 30% increase with the Aixiz plastic mount,
that I got with my optional Aixiz brass mount.

Not bad for a $31 upgrade.

It shows that you did a good job of mounting the lens on the plastic assembly.

Did you use epoxy on the lens mounting shoulder ?

Be sure that you don't screw the lens assembly in past infinity focus point.

Do you have a Red laser that you can check for power increase over the stock Aixiz plastic lens assembly ?

Have you talked to Danjoo over there in Europe. He has done a lot of good lens testing.

Thanks,

Hey Larry...
there was no Brokerage fee on the lens I bought off eBay

It was $35.00US for the Lens and we were charged $5.00US for the bubble pack USPS
shipping.
That was $40.00 X 1.24(exchange rate) = $49.60 Cnd (~$50.00 ::)) that I actually paid
for a single 1/4" lens with no holder... :eek:
I guess if we needed an extra 25%-30% output to save the world... it is a bargain... ;D

It is not as clean a mod as the brass one but considering the cost I really like it.

I use the plastic holder in reverse, i.e. the side with the two little notches faces the diode. Due to the lens' short focal length it would not focus to infinity in the normal configuration. As an additional benefit I use the small bottom part of the plastic lens nut as an aperture disc to reduce the "side splash"-effect a bit, at the cost of output power, of course.

The lens holder needs to be screwed in all the way into the Aixiz module, there is no space for the focusing ring. I think I like it better this way, no more accidentally changing focus.

I used Norland NOA61 optical adhesive on the lens' mounting shoulder.

The only high power red I have is in the "Dilda"-Host, I will try if its thread fits the Aixiz module.
