Quick question, are lenses coated for red lasers (such as the standard aixiz glass lens) also suitable for IR (980nm)? If not, where can one buy IR lenses for aixiz?

A "red" lens wil be fine. You'll lose more power (5-10%?) but you won't be able to tell the difference without a power meter.

Thanks for the replies. The lenses that were linked are not quite what I'm looking for unfortunately, they are too expensive and I only need one for now.

Cyparagon: Are that estimate for 980nm or 808nm? Pretty large difference in wavelength. If it is indeed valid for 980nm, nice, 5-10% isn't a big deal.

Will an uncoated acrylic lens work maybe? The laser is around 3-400mW, will the acrylic one melt from that?

Should be just as safe as when operating at visible, so yes. Near IR isn't some totally different electromagnetic phenomenon like some people think. It behaves very similarly to red. Quick googling turned up:
