IIRC DX has a red module ~20$ that comes with that heatsink

Unfortunately, even though that laser was moved to DX's new YourLasers site, they still won't ship it to addresses in the US.

So you'll have to use something like those 12mm linear shaft supports you can get on eBay. They're not the correct height for "standard" optics for laser shows.

I've been looking at these on eBay. They appear to be the ones that have been used in those cheaper laser projectors like the Rekes. Here is what they look like on the color combining unit I ripped from that L-86 projector:

The center heatsink is the one in the link above. Interestingly enough, that site also has the heatsink on the left, which is used for the 445nm laser, and appears to have better heatsinking capability because it allows the air to blow through the heatsink's hollow sections. That one can be found here with a 650nm glass lens. Here's one supposedly for 445nm (i.e. the included lens is made for 445nm), only $2 more.

I think I'll actually buy some of those, especially the latter one so that I can use the superior 18mm heatsink they have there, or just the supplied chamber they show that comes with it. They all are of the correct height for the mirrors in the MI-Lasers lens and mount package. $25 for a nice heatsink + fan + glass lens is pretty good.

I may have just paid forthe last of these lot optics from mi-lasers.
listing said only one left and after I paid the listing was gone.
I will get w/AixiZ to see if any blank lab laser heatsink can be added to thier line. Would the most popular be made to for the AixiZ size blanks inside..12mm. adding a ka5io fan to the back may be overkill. then there is the ka5io TEC that sits under the red LED. but that also needs the same fan, so..
Maybe chilling it will lower the nm to <635.
then there is the condensation issue...

@BB what is the min distance betwen those optics? a cube dual would need to have a big footprint.

these..
- 2x plano-convex cylindrical lenses (each in a different axis, coated for red)
look identical to me- how do i know which axis each is?

also note to all getting these ...take care to keep them from bumping tpgether.
after looking at all of mine I put them all back in thier bags and the box they came in and though I did not bump them around or anything I am now seeing a few new chips-the edges of some of these mirrors are very thin and fragile. the longest mirror got a chip in one corner while in transit, as the piece was inside the bag, and I doubt that Chad put that chip in there. So the USPS did that. IMO something needs to be wrapped around each of the 10 pieces to keep this from happening.

no biggie but i thought i would mention this.

When they shipped mine, each optic was in its own plastic bag, and all the bags were in a larger bad. There was no padding between them, so two lenses were chipped, and one was cracked. They offered to replace the broken ones, but I declined because I didn't need those particular ones.

You want the one where you can see the curvature on the edge while looking down on it... I'm not sure if that makes sense. It will expand the beam in the left-right direction rather than up-down. When in doubt, shine a pointer through it.

You'll want the cylinder axis in the plano-convex to be the same as the bi-concave lens's. Just look through the lens at something in the distance and look at which axis gets compressed or expanded. The plano-convex lens I used has 02145KY written on it if that helps.

The biconcave is the one that actually reduces the fast axis; however it does too good of a job, so the the plano-convex is to correct it. I think you might be able to use this to your advantage to reduce the size of the beam even more for a given spot distance.

I know! Not well wrapped at all. I got some other optics from a different seller that were substantially better packed (though cost a bit more); these are not, especially those wedged front-side mirrors. Originally I wasn't that pissed (still not pissed), because I really just wanted the mounts, but now that they might have some other use it would be nice if they spent a little more time to pack it up nicely.

On another note, I just ordered two of these style heatsinks (one for 650nm, one for 445nm). I figure the price is good, and they were the missing link in all my projects (I only had one of those 70mW red heatsinks from DX before they stopped shipping them to the US).

Here(in part) is what I got from Chad today.

"Len,

Thanks again for your business.
I will have more of the mounted optics kits listed today.
I will include some one of a kind type optics and some misc with your order.
Thanks again for your kind words on the forums and in your feedback.

And if worse comes to worst, there are quite a few on the MI-Lasers site too.

I get the feeling that as long as Chad has them we will be able to buy via FeeBay for ~$40.

88*******EDIT/UPDATE*********************

Mi-lasers now has them again listed for $40 here. LASER OPTICS LOT MIRRORS LENSES mounts optic dpss hene diode light show | eBay
the shipping drops to $4.60 each($46) if you get 10 sets but I would think that you may get a better deal if you ask--for those in arizona free local pickup.

Some have guessed correctly that all the optics in this lot buy come from a red HeNe.
who knew???
I have saved mi-lasers as a fav. seller many years ago- that way you get an email about new listings.
