Door Peephole optics??

Anyone ever play around with a door peephole?
What sort of useful optics are inside?

A bunch of Google/forum searches and I came up with nothing about the actual optics that are used.

Interesting enough...some of the peepholes are the same diameter as an Aixiz module. (12mm)

I'm sure most of them use cheap plastic optics but some do say they use glass.

Any thoughts?

I have one in my door, but dont intend to remove it to take it apart. The image quality is rather poor though, so i dont expect there would be useful optics in them.

Thanks Benm,
I figured the optics would be pretty poor for any real laser related projects but they can be purchased for under $5 and I might have to get one for disection to see what's there:)
I did run across a few people that made fisheye lenses for camera's from them.
Just a thought I had.

They are fisheye lenses indeed, and i suppose they can be used with a camera as well. For 5 bucks i suppose its not a problem to take one apart, and see if you can make anything useful out of it. I can't think of much though: the optics could function as a beam expander, but the output lens would be too small to be of much use.

Haha!

I had an insane neightbour, who lived upstairs from me. I know the most neightbours in my stairs. The girl also upstairs but in another appartment said he was a wacko. Then my other neighbour asked me if I had seen the wacko stare in my doorhole. And yes I had. Because every time he went out, he pulled his keys among the stairs-rail. So it echoed in the whole stair and into the appartments.

Every time I looked out, and then he stod there, just staring into my door! Then I shined out with my green laser, didn't had the blue then. I don't know if I scared him. But he has moved now.

EDIT: Then I have seen him in the psychiatric ward. I also is some wacko so I'm there to, but I don't stare into peoples doors!

QUOTE "The smell of troll is strong with this one... "

Please apologize and plus rep the now exonerated " troll". Widgets that reverse the effect of real, glass, door fisheyes and allow viewing/filming are easily available to law enforcement and hotel owners, for less then 100$.

Some door lenses are just junk, and easily defeated. The last hotel I was in, that 5$ lens was a single slug of plastic, and very easily viewed outside in.

Hotels and apartment buildings like the illusion that they are cheap, fun, places where the rules do not apply. Do not assume for one minute that saying about "What stays in Vegas..." is correct.
B/W Video cameras are down to 11$ wholesale with decent lenses.

With static ram now so cheap, its safe to assume any camera in the room is no longer RF.

Now I'm gonna take pictures how it looks thru a peephole. I'll be back...

The red one, does not look very much:

The green one, shines up a bit:

The blue one was hard to right the beam into the hole, as it was to big to fit in it. But it was reflected in the whole stairs:

I read this thread and decided to try some photos using the fish eye lens i got from all these flashlights.
My camer ia a sony cyber-shot 7.2mp. I doesn't have manual focus, but does have a macro setting.

The first picure is as close as i could get with the image still focused. The second image is with the fisheye lens pressed up against the camera. I'm kind of impressed....i can't wait to find a reason to take some real macros....

I hoop you are not that guy from sweden that shoots random foreigners,... because your profile would make a perfect match. ;)

No, of course it's not me!
But they talk about a new "laser-man". Because in the begining of the 1990, when lasers still was unusual, there was a mad guy, who used a laser-sight to shoot immigrants (therefore the "laser-man"). Now there is another crazy man in Malmoe whot shoot immigrants. But I only live about 90 km north of Malmoe.
