RHD...you are a brainstormer for sure!

Would love to get one of these on the go.

Yep, it's going to happen - just need to get the C2 ;)

Cheers

I'm double-posting intentionally, because I want the notification to go to anyone subscribed to this thread (sorry, I'm evil).

Does anyone have a C2 on hand, who would be able to take an internal diameter measurement of the head? A height would be great too, even if that's a less accurate figure. But for now, an internal diameter figure would be really really helpful in moving this along while I wait for my various C2s to show up :)

Measure the heatsink as-well as it will be more acurate i think!

So, no chances for the NF-009?

To be honest, I just really hate the look and size of that host.

Rhd, just wondering if your going to have the two lasers individually switchable (three color options, assuming spectral combining) or if it's going to be both on or off only?

I have this UniqueFire HS-802 Cree R2-WC 2-Mode 230-Lumen LED Flashlight (1*18650/2*CR123A) - Free Shipping - DealExtreme on hand if you need the exact dimensions.

I would *love * the dimensions of that host :)

So - in terms of usable area that is purely cylindrical (before we get into the tapering), am I correct to assume from your measurements that this would fit a module of:

- 40.75 mm in diameter
- 26.00 mm in height

With a lip that was:

- 42.45 mm in diameter
- Say, 2 mm in height

???

I just want to make sure I'm interpreting the measurements correctly. I wouldn't actually base the final design off this, don't worry - I've got one en route. But in terms of getting the build of the design done before mine arrives, this is super helpful!

I think this is a doable host.

Yes, that's correct but there may be some variation from host to host so like you said, don't base the final design on these measurements alone. If you look at the images in the album I uploaded them to (http://laserpointerforums.com/members/ramsey_innovations/albums/explorer-4x4/) the image titles provide a description to make it more clear as to what exactly your looking at.

glad I could help;)

Awesome!

I think you guys will be impressed with the 3rd crack I've taken at designing this module. It will fit the HS-802, and once I have one in hand to verify some of the tapering measurements more precisely, I'm going to get it made :)

I'll post photos, or maybe a 3D video a bit later this evening. I've cleared all the errors, and I have it still within the realm of being sell-able in the eMachineShop for $50.

As promised, a 3D video so you guys can see what this is looking like.

This model is now fit for the HS-802, based on the measurements Ramsey-Innovations provided. Though don't worry, I won't finalize it until I have on in hand. I've cleared any CAD/CNC errors, other than the ones that I'm cool with (and in the case of the errors I show in this video, they're actually likely to be advantageous to our design). It's actually hard to believe that this entire module is just under 4cm in diameter, given the small size of the components inside of it. But, the design passes checks, and their machinery can do it :)

All of the major elements will look as previewed in this video. The few exceptions are a few inner corners that appear square in this video, but won't be in real life, because of the cutter's minimum diameter. These are all in areas where it is completely inconsequential to the design itself.

Major bonus - this design now integrates a front "lid" :) I was able to accomplish this by coming in from the read and the side to cut away the material under the "dichro pedestal".

Here we go -
(EDIT: note that there's a big flaw in the positioning of the dichro pedestal set screws. They're in the corners, but I've actually changed that so that they're in the middle of each side. Didn't want to re-record after that revision)
