This really does suck... I made andy's dichro mount today and as I dont have the springs yet I very loosely wedged the dichro between the metal... Big mistake...

Now I have a dichro with a crack in the bottom, I can see a very slight rainbow effect in the corners of it... It seams to let the red pass through and the green reflect still but is it still good enough to use? or am I going to have to buy another one now?

Waste of time that, I have a camera with hundreds of settings yet it lacks a manual focus feature...

Its a round 20mm dichro, there is a small crack around the outside and a sorf of rainbow effect around it.

so why dont you just point the beam at a part of the dichro that isnt cracked?

avoid the cracked area?

Thats what I am doing, its just the rainbow effect that could cause a problem. Imagine ripples in water, about half a centimeter away from the crack there is their there. If you look at it through a light you can see different colors in it...

While I am here, whats the best way to clean the mirrors on my galvos?

What you see are Newton's rings, probably caused by de-laminating of the coating or some plate of glass. (someone said it but the post got lost)

It seems to me that your dichro reflects red and transmits green+blue light despite what you said. (because it looks cyan when looking through)

I don't know what you intent to do with it but maybe you can use dicro mirrors from DVD drives. (see my other post)

i just harvested a bunch of dicro mirrors from dvd burners, if you REALLY want one let me know and i could mail you a few :)

and i have a physics final on friday over newton's rings. really interesting stuff. i'm going to ace it ::)

edit: i just tried out the mirrors and they are for sure dirchro's. i didn't realize they reflect red so well and pass the green . cool!

Thing is I need it to pass the red and reflect the green...

hah. i think it is intentional :)

and I don't know what you'd need to pass the red and reflect green ??? i guess just a different type of mirror :-?

It was intentional, yes. My reply to that seams to have been removed...

The dichro I have now, the damaged one that is, reflects something like 85% green and passes 90% red.
