He's advocating shining a 200mW laser into people's eyes. Great. Just what we need.

I get the feeling he's done no relevant calculations to determine how "safe" these are.

true but is any non lethal weapon safe, rather get an unfocused 200mw laser than a taser or a beanbag :)

dont see a public need though.

Crowd controll, assailant disabler...
military has had available for a couple of decades, high intensity, low frequency, flashing green light disruptors. Flashing at around 40Hz (i think) they cause nausea and disorientation. Yeah, beats a bean bag, or maybe even a taser, but I prefer "I give up!! and laying face down on the ground....

Uhm, aren't 12GA "flechette" shots or neurochemical agents more efficent than laser dazzlers ?

..... oh, wait, you're speaking about NON lethal solutions, right ? ..... nevermind, then  .....

(just kidding :p :D)

Also, is just my impression, or that "dazzler adapter" is just a miniature beam expander built inside a RF connector ?

Flechette rounds are really expensive compared to shot and dragon's breath rounds. Besides, the troops keep dismantling the rounds to get the cool little darts out to pin them to thier BDU's (oooh, flash back to the days of the emerald forest, ahhhhhh! somebody slap me).
Well, yes. That is a little extreem for crowd control. Better to use rubber bullets so you can at least SAY that you were using non-lethal force to maintain order.....

No. It's a miniature beam expander, with a diffusing lens, built inside a RF connector

Peace,
dave

I just tried a cheap fisheye I got off EBay to make a "wide" angle webcam here at work. Holding my laser pointer to it seems to have the same effect. It's a macro lens and fisheye, together they have no effect, but the macro makes a nice 3" or so circumfrence "dot" with a nice splash. Not great for pointers, but some hosts would probably be easy to adapt this lens to.
