I recently bought some Nichia 20mW 473nm laser diodes. They weren't cheap, but I couldn't let go of a once in a lifetime opportunity. The diodes were rated individually at 475nm-476nm.

To start this nerve racking build, I started off by plugging myself into the wall for ESD protection. :D

Here is the finished product! It was very difficult building this laser, as I was shaking from both nervousness and caffeine pills.

The laser is powered at 79mA and outputs 15mW with AixiZ glass lens. The color is so perrty! It's even more awesome in this pen host.

The beam profile on this laser is very good. One of these diodes is being sent for testing to ARG and then will be given away (all tickets sold!) The other two diodes I'll probably build into LeadLights and then sell off on here or eBay.

Watch out for my future sale threads ;) I may be selling a line of pen builds including these diodes, PL520s, and PL450Bs. :D

That is pure epic right there. You my friend have in your hand a laser that many dream of.

I love the packaging and how it is clear that each diode is a rarity and a work of art. Seriously, nobody ships diodes in a box that large for each diode.

Anyway great job on this short, but very nice presentation of your 473nm diode handheld built :beer:

I think I am going to have to grab one of those hosts now. I have a sweet little X-Switch X-Drive from Lazeerer that was made with a switch right on the PCB and I think I have finally found the host I want.

The X-Switches don't work with Jay's ledlights. I asked :(

Have you measured the WL? Maybe it drifted more into the 480+ range... :yh:
Your pics are epic... What camera do you use? Good quality...

Probably the length of the driver.

I don't have a spectrometer, but ARG will measure the wavelength during the testing! I shot these pictures with a Canon Powershot SD880.

I would assume it's because the driver doesn't fit in that little black piece meant for the switch board. I just pay the extra $3 for the empty switch board from JayRob and then wire my driver to that.

This is Crazy! But at this price you can get more output from a DPSS Pen.
