Were you able to pop a balloon? :D
Been there too.

How many milliwatts is your laser? Interesting you can burn a light-colored wall but not pop a white balloon....

A white balloon would be so thin that the light would just shine straight through most of the time. There just isn't enough thickness to absorb enough energy.

Where walls tend to be pretty thick ;)

That's my theory anyway.

it just bleaches the balloon instantly, but if i use a 2x magnifying glass it pops it instantly. im not sure of it's power output but im guessing over 120mW, idk what it takes to do the stuff it does.

i tried to do some stuff different from the norm except for the match light, i just had to. can anyone give me a rough estimate on the power?

Power estimates are hard to do - I have been able to light black-tipped matches pretty much instantly with a 125mw laser, and also with a 420mw laser....but the latter has much worse collimation than the former.

There are so many factors - collimation of your beam, whether or not you focus it with an external lens, and the materials you are burning and igniting. You could have anywhere from 100mw to over 300....

no external lens and the beam is pretty fat compared to other lasers i have seen <1.5mm at the aperture.

Do you know if it has an IR filter? If not, that could throw off power estimates by a whole lot, especially for close-range burning. You might have 100mw of green coming out and a good bit more of IR to aid the burning ability.

yes it has an ir filter. the burning power stays for about 5 ft then it starts to decline. i think since it has a fatter beam it has a better divergence than my others
