Decided to make a little video of some old footage. Unfortunately my camera battery died before being able to capture some more mesmerizing shots. Any good? :)

Here are some shots of some highlighter fluid dripped into the aquarium with the blu-ray laser:

Anyone know why the blu-ray beam on the last shot is visibly YELLOW while traveling through the crystal?

The light from the laser is causing a component of the glass to fluoresce.  The beam hasn't actually changed colors (as you can tell when it exits the glass) but the light from the fluorescence combined with the light from the beam appear to be yellow/green.  Here is a shot I took with a violet beam being shined through both a glass sphere and a quartz crystal sphere.  A component of the glass fluoresces and the quartz does not.

Wow! Very nice collection Dave. How does one make mineral spheres? Would think it is a very time consuming process.

Thank you. It does indeed. It takes 64 cuts in a diamond saw (at about 1 inch per hour), then an hour with a hand grinder, then around 10 hours in a sphere grinding machine. A medium hardness stone (like an agate) takes about 19 hours of direct effort (plus many hours of unsupervised work by a machine) to make a 3 inch sphere. I used to make them for sale, but figured out I cannot compete with Chinese companies. Now I only make them for my personal collection when I find a rare or very striking looking stone.

Peace,

Beautiful work Dave, just from what i can count in the picture..... roughly 1,000 hrs of craftsmanship there!

Ted

Edit: not counting the unsupervised work in the machine.

Really nice! I'm pretty sure there aren't any fish in that aquarium you mixed with highlighter fluid, then shot high-powered lasers into.
