I saw a video (couldn't find it right now) here on LPF where someone was burning through CD case and so I tried something similar with my 2W 445nm. (aka Frankenstein built by the user DTR)

This is a video of a 2W Blue Laser burning trought 10 (ten) CD cases and the plastic botton of a DVD-R tube.

And don't forget to watch in HD if possible, much better details.

Enjoy:

Cheers!

Updated the OP with a newer version of the video, adding some smoke.

Cheers!

Awesome video. Smoke is not needed with this laser. it makes its own smoke. :D

Yes, there is smoke, but not too much because this laser really don't need smoke... :)

Very nice video... the smoke produces cool effects when the beam pierces the cd cases :topic:

Can your high powered green laser do that?

No, it can't. It will pierce trought 3 but not 4. But it can pierce the CD case at a greater distance than the 445nm because the better beam profile and divergence.

A little science please. How much LD current and how do you measure power? I've never reached this level--

HMike

In an interesting way, The post below mine demonstrates the almost total loss of scientific interest in lieu of post building. I asked for data and got nothing of value to the hobby. This appears to be the trend of LPF --- Too bad ------
