Street lights shut off

How did he shut off lights with 170mw laser ??Is that trick or something like that?

There is a fair few videos doing that. It's because when you shine your laser at the sensor the light thinks that it's day time and it shuts off.

It comes on soon after it shuts off though because it realises its still night.

I tried that here. Doesn't work, the lights are timed or something, there is no sensor and I cannot shut off the light, no matter which laser I try.

So I guess it's not possible everywhere.

STILL I wouldn't reccomend carelessly shining high powered lasers into street lights, especially if you're in a building or on a higher level than the light, who knows what you can hit with a reflection or behind the light.

Only try it in an empty street, when there are no cars around to be seen. Usually at 2-3 AM some alleys are empty and you can try this out to see if it works for you.

Most of the newer street lights here in Wisconsin have the photo sensor on top. The only issue is hitting it. It seems the only way to shut them off is to aim at the top from higher up. They have however left some older ones around where you can still shut them off. :wtf:

Why are you so made that you can't shut street lights off?

I'm guessing this doesn't work with blue lasers?

If you cannot see the that using lasers for such purposes in not at all a good thing for this forum perhaps you should leave LPF. Any activities of this nature go against our efforts to keep lasers legal to own. This is not the forum for you. Those with ideas like this are, IMHO, not welcome here.

I was just explaining how it works, I would not recommended doing this.

People take laser pointers very seriously on the forum as they should, due to many injuries that have occurred and will occur because of accidents and misuse. The more incidents that occur mean more legislation which is detrimental for our community.

I read that one awhile back. I tell anyone who wants to touch them that story. A month ago a friend of mine wanted to buy a 2.8watt 445 from me..... I told him I won't sell it to him until he has glasses, and prints me out articles that he has read on safety. Lasers of this power are no toy. They are in fact considered a deadly weapon in some areas if not most. My interest to lasers came after wanting to put one on a maker not to engrave my sons guitar. I take them seriously, and keep them in a pelican lock box.

My post was meant to be just advice= if I thought you planned to do something like that it would have been a neg rep too. Sometimes just mentioning activities like this put bad ideas in the heads a a few who read these.

The FDA comes to LPF often and they read a lot of what is posted.

They have been know to attempt to make buys from members as a sting.

Our own sigs can be something they notice-- The could match up incident reports with our IP locations and what lasers we own-- Threads about zapping red light cameras and security cameras are something the Feds have high interest in.

They know that for 100$ a powerful laser can be illegally obtained here and used on aircraft when landing- that is a federal offence now. I can easily imagine a terrorist using lasers for this and other purposes like disabling cameras.. Public display of lasers is NOT legal--so save that activity for times when you are not in the city--Never sell to minors or those w/o eye protection and any that you think may do the stoopid.( age has no bearing on that)

I'm pretty sure that people know that it's wrong to shut street lights off, as it's an obvious safety hazard. Anyone who tries it once shouldn't make a habit of it, lest they get charged for some kind of car accident.
