Surely, I am not the only one who has seen a really awesome laser/host/flashlight photo(s) all over the forum and wondered to myself, "Great! But how BIG is it?".

Wouldn't it be nice if we all got in the habit of photographing our units in our hands :)crackup:), or next to a ruler, or something?

I for one will try to make this a habit when shooting my junk in the future.

You can always asked in the same thread about the size of the laser.
A laser in the hands of a Hobbit may look BIG but it isn't. :)

Please don't take pictures of your "junk" and post in on here. Ain't nobody want to see that! :)

At least in comparison to a DMM or anything you have laying around that everyone knows the size of.

Blord, I really like the way you handled perspective on your BigBoy build...with your monster hands, the Dr. Pepper can was a nice touch.

This is the kind of thing I am talking about. There's no reason this shouldn't become as ubiquitous as beamshots.

It was just a thought anyway. I'm bored at work.

Agreed that the only way to tell the size is taking a picture with a ruler or something. If we take a pic of the laser near to the LPM its quite worthless to all the people that don't own a LPM and in the hands of a person, well it all depends on the size of te hands.

Thank you. I don't particularly care how people are giving perspective, I just feel it's a needed addition to our wonderful members' threads.

Generally I try to use a little artistry in my photos so sticking it next to a ruler isn't really aesthetically pleasing.

Normally a good indicator of the scale of the laser is the size of the module in comparison to the host/heatsink. Most of what we make here includes the standard 12mm module an I think most, if not all of us have some of those. If the module is concealed behind a focus ring, the scale of the aperture relative to the host works just as well.

Another hint is battery type. Larger batteries only fit in larger hosts.

I get what you're saying. But, considering that the majority of images made for the forum tend to be of a wide-angle and isn't a decent perspective representation. I've often seen pics of 18650s standing on end that looked like they could be just 14500s.

But, screw it...I'll just keep my mouth shut on the subject.

Pretty much this. If I'm doing a build or review thread I'll try and remember to mention the size. Like just about everybody here I'm always willing to answer questions about any of the lasers I've posted pics of so just ask if you're curious about the size of a particular host.

Com'on don't be like that, you had a good idea. I have to say that in my case, for example, when I bought the Rick trent red laser (same as the picture that was posted above with the ruler) I though It was MUCH bigger than it really is. So it was a surprise to see that it was just a nice sized laser and that I wasn't going to have a mastodonte in my hands.

Anyhow a ruler is the best thing to get a perspective of the size, BUT also a comparason with other lasers can be a good option. Like for example in this picture:

You might not know any of the hosts in the picture but you sure can tell what is the biggest one in the bunch....
