I have had to deal with all of the following at work THIS YEAR!

The technicians and radio people will probably get more out of this than anyone..

Enjoy :D

First, what i had to deal with this weekend...

Next, a community station so greedy they needed the whole FM band to themselves - with a cheap eBay Thai transmitter:

I HATE heights and had to do this:

Good view though:

If its not drought its flood. Guess who they wanted to drop out of the helicopter to fix the transmitters?:

And with floods come these fella's:

To add insult to injury, as the floodwater receded, the mains power hit somewhat more than the 415V it was supposed to be with the following result (we are now waiting for parts for this from the US):

I see your problem: you blew a fuse. Put a new one in - should be good to go.

Yeah they use very black corrosive smoke in fuses these days...

After the water receded the SWR was fine- I was getting 2000 watts forward for about 5 watts reflected, and these TX's are solid state with protection and will reduce power down to nothing with high SWR.

The transmitter was on the whole time putting 6kW into two feet of water at the base of the towers (although horribly distorted).

BOTH transmitters blew up spectacularly after the water receded - I think the 30kV sub station 2km down the road may have had something to do with it. These TX's don't like anything over 415V. I suspect we got a surge (although there is a surge filter with MOV's fitted) or the mains went to 430V or so and fried them.

The generator was under 600mm of water and had water in the fuel tank so I doubt it was the cause as it couldn't start. We have an AVR from the old Swan Hill analogue TV site en route and I will be setting it to regulate at 230V per phase (i am reading up to 250V now on 2/3 phases).

Hi all, its me again ^^
Today I was bored and worked a bit on my tesla coil.
First it was just rubbish laying on the table an generating sparks, but now I glued everything together with hotglue and did some optimization.
It looks like a Mc Gyver tesla coil, but hey it works :D
