The ready made housings with the neat looking fins make it easy, I just go battle ship sturdy on the build with 2.5 and 3 inch round bar/tube that gets me a nice runtime.

I buy the bargain priced units and sometimes they have an issue with the leds or driver but that is not important as I only want the housing, springs, tail switch and I remove all the driver parts from the board and solder on my own wires, well worth the price for a thick host that holds 2-3 18650/26650 cells.

Do I see single mode? The one with all of the wires looks to have a wide enough emitter to be a NUBM44

Both diode are multimode :D

First one is an LPC-826 or equivalent.
Yep, the LD-1 is an LPC-840 :D

That was my impression. The second one looks to have a photo diode in it. Don't think it is a 44, but can't say exactly what.

BTW, why are we doing this? Is there a prize?

That's an ESD protection device, not a photodiode :D

Anyway, the LD-2 is rarely used by anyone here AFAIK, and it's not an NUBM44
I've been pushing this diode up to 7.2A with no problem
The output? ~4.2W @ 7.2A

Went up to Pilots Monument and snapped some pictures last night. Moon is a little blurred on some of them, autofocus isn't perfect. :(

Bonus, float plane coming in to land! It was a good ways out from where I was. Snapped a picture of it a little earlier but there's a large metal post in the image too. Grabbed another picture just as it touched down but it ended up being blurry from trying to track the aircraft with the zoom on my camera cranked up.

Looks like Imgur/my phone/resizing them jpegified them a little bit too!

Those are really cool looking moon shots! :gj:

Thanks!

Didn't catch any auroras last night, skies were clear but didn't really see much activity. May have missed it. Going to try again tonight.

Those are some nice moon photos diachi, definitely not a wasted trip!
It was cloudy last night at my place, but was clear around 4:00am when I went to work, but no luck, didn't see anything. :scowl:
I'll try again tonight, I heard there was a chance of seeing them again tonight.

We're having geomagnetic storm coming in, seems that particles were travelling slower than was expected. All markers are red now.. But we have full cloud cover and raining atm. I hate when it does that!! :yabbmad:

Curtis, if you're reading: This night is your chances to see them if the sky is clear! :p

Yup, the CME that hit yesterday wasn't as intense as expected, but the one that's coming now should be much better.

Loved your photos, diachi. Can you explain why the moon looks red in them? Is it an atmospheric aberration?

Thanks! :)

Same reason the sun is so orange/red at sunrise! The moon was very close to the horizon and as such the reflected light has to travel through more of the atmosphere. This results in the blue portion of the light being removed due to scattering.
