Took this today, can´t decide for myself which one is better.

I would like to call it "Lebenselixier" - the English words for it would be "elixir of life" or "lifeblood" (fits the second pic-version very good)

Pic #1 -elixir of life-

Pic #2 -lifeblood-

Thanks

I've voted for the 1st option. But personally if there was the option for red coat sleeve and coloured cigarette only, that would be the winner for me. Just a personal feeling, nothing else;). The old lady is the past (B/W completely), yet the cigarette will outlive her. The red will turn grey sooner or later, too...

Wow, that's a tough one! At first glance, I immediately thought #2 to be better, but as I looked longer and longer, my eyes kept returning to #1.
I think #1 keeps you focused on the actual exchange better. I also like the title on #1.

I vote for #1.

BTW - They're both Great photos!

Hey, I just noticed - 500 posts!

Thanks for your input guys!
Was my first try on B/W pics today.
Your opinions, as you both take very awesome pictures, matter a lot

Made three more options, unfortunately I can´t add them to the poll :)

cigarette box and cigarette in color

cigarette in color

cigarette box, cigarette and coat in color

*forget about the sloppy colored edge :p

Prefer the one where only the cigarette is coloured. Can you play with the crop too perhaps move the hand and cigarette more to the top line of thirds? Perhaps it wont look as good, the lines work, but due to the open space to the left it seems to not emphasise the subject enough. Just a couple of thoughts:beer:

Of the last set, I agree with grainde. I prefer the one with only the cigarette being colored. :)

New version below!

I´m not able to to that one for now (my PS skillz are near zero :))

What I did here is cropping the picture (maybe too much?) and putting a soft grey line around the cigarette.

Yea, the cig kinda just blends into that background-does the older womans ring have much color to it? would be cool if that was the only thing with color in the pic

Another way to try... the arm in red, it's hand, and the cig colored and everything else (including sitting lady's hand) desaturated... so the delineation between the outside influence and the sitting lady's state is clear and the boundary touching is where the eye flows following the color into frame...

my two cents

I like the cigarette only color option. I think it draws the users attention to it, whereas the sleeve is so red that it draws my gaze away from the cigarette. Likewise, the blue color on the Cigarette box is distracting. I feel the box as more of a part of the old lady, and therefore should be desaturated? The box itself is not changing hands, only the cigarette.

PS - My 2 cents, if they make sense hold onto them and save up for something nice :)

Thanks for all of your input guys!

If you want, I can upload the RAW version of this pic and you can make your personal best out of it.

Don´t worry, I won´t use it for competitions (I´m by far not good enough yet to participate) or anything else. Just for personal fun :)

Don´t you think that this would create the feeling that the cigartette is from the third person, not the old lady?

@crazyspaz, will also play with the ring, thanks

@Isaac, I can make the red coat with less saturation. May try it out today :)

Edit: Here is the pic, too bad I deleted the RAW. Only have the crop, DxO reduced to 90% quality version (not much spance on my harddrive :))

Found the RAW! Imageshack just wasn´t showing it up cause it doesn´t support RAW files.
Anyone of you know an easy method to upload the data?

Sad picture in 2 ways. First is she's still smoking at that age. Second is someone bummed a smoke from an old lady.

Maybe she is ready to quit life. Maybe she even started in high age as her husband passed away.

We have quite a lot of gypsies around. Most of them are known for having no spark of decency.

Some other BW faces I got yesterday in the half-an-hour city-rush:

Maybe if the queen had balls she'd be the king. :p

I'm sorry, its early AM.

Joking aside if you want anything tweaked in PS send me a PM.

Would have love seeing the queen showing her the fu#$ off finger :)

Thats nice man! I´m curious what more-PS-experienced people are able to get out of this scene. I´m just at the very beginning of my PS learning-stage.
