pics 2/1/14

On the first series of pics I tried to use the "U" configuration again, repositioning a few lasers and adding a laser in the middle of the "U" with fan and matrix diffraction gratings using a 473nm and 589nm.

This week my Dragon Laser gratings from NO4H99's Group Buy arrived. Thanks again NO4H99! I was able to get a reflective fan and matrix grating, besides 2 more transmission fan gratings. I know DL has been out of stock on the reflective ones for at least a year and a half so it was nice to finally get a few. Since the lasers bouce off of them as opposed to passing through them, the are much easier to photograph since the glass is not overexposed like the transmission ones. The second half of the pics are using them. By bouncing lasers into them at different angles, and bending the angle of the grating itself, they can form straight lines or curved lines. I was able to adjust the level of curvature making for some creative photos. There are also a few using the fan transmission fan gratings and I broke out the thin plastic mylar gratings on a few. The last two pics are of a small glass skull I got from a mineral store. Enjoy

Decent splitter beam show, Bruce. You must be well equipped with several diffraction gratings types right now, gives you more options/alternatives to experiment with. The 589nm looks kind of orangish depicted(?), 473nm looks very real and cool. The two last shots with the little crystal skull caught my attention I must admit. Was looking to buy some of these for a cheap buck, but couldn't find anything good enough.

That skull is about 1.5" high. I got it last week from a guy who sells minerals and rocks. It cost me 15 dollars. I will probably photograph it again next week. At the very end of my photo session, I remembered I had it and take about 10 pics at the very end. I was tired so those two shots are pretty basic. I have the D5200 color set at neutral and the white balance set at Auto. That is how it is the camera is reproducing that frequency. I also took a few pics with my Canon SX40 as a comparison and they seem to be a little orange too. Later on I will edit this post and put on one pic from each camera so you can see. I wonder if the very cold temperatures in my garage when I shot the past month effect the actual lasers or the camera. All of the other colors seem ok. Since the beam is from a Dragonlasers 5mw 589 and sometimes a Laserglow 593.5nm 6mw. are clearly visible with fog, but they unstable lasers, especially in the cold environment in the garage.

I am in the same boat as you with the GB for CNI 589nm 80 mw. I really hope it happens. I too would like to purchase WBS 473nm 100mw. But I would rather have a 589 80 mw

do you wear all safety glasses over one by one ?

I only use my safety glasses when I am setting all the lasers up. Once set up and all of them are turned on, they are not moving so I then can safely move about without glasses. When I photograph, it is always a static environment with very little movement of the laser beams

Wow that looks completely orange I thought you had acquired a 612nm HeNe or something at first :drool:
