So I have used some ps3 sleds as well as hd-dvd drives and come up with some more easy to build blu-rays. I used the ultrafire wf-501b and the Elly flashlights. The only component that I have added to all of these flashlights is a single resistor.

I have 2 ultrafire blu-rays. One does 80mW with fresh batteries, and then sits at 55-60mW once the voltage levels out. The other is a ps3 diode so it is only doing 15mW.
I also have a couple new Elly blu-rays doing 18 and 20mW.

My >70mw BluRay is on its way and i cant wait! Ive never seen that colour in person. And i m guessing it looks different in real life.

That looks stunning! I also have a blu-ray on its way, Mine is at almost 100mw! :D It must look so cool in fog. You have a lot of smoke in the room, haven't you?
Will it look that lightsaber-ish in real life as well? The 80mw makes me think of mace windus awesomm purple saber.

I blew smoke directly into the path of the beam for these shots. The beam can be seen without smoke on the >50mW blu-rays, against dark background without bright ambient light. If anyone wants one of these 15-20mW blu-rays I am trying to get rid of them.

How much do you want for the lower powered blu-rays. Do you have any pic's of them? I actually use blu-ray pointers.

They are the 2 in the second picture. I have a 3rd just like those 2 running at 13mW. If someone wanted these I would be willing to part with them for $55 each. They may not be the most professional build but they get the job done and look pretty good. I started a for sale thread in the appropriate section of the forum.

does anyone know a site that sells blu-ray lasers at a decent power level and price?

Depends on how "homemade" it is. If its just a 405nm Ld Stickytaped to a duracell, or a properly driven laser with reasonable heatsinking etc.

I've got a question about these diodes. Does anyone know why the xbox hd-dvd diode is so much more powerful than the ps3? Neither of them have to burn anything, do they? It just seems to me like overkill for microsoft to use such a powerful diode in a reading-only device. I might just have to convince my friend who never uses his xbox player to sell it to me for cheap!
