That's the idea. The shaft collar is 1/2" and has a set screw. Most modules are <12mm, so it should fit almost any pointer. Both the 40mW green and my 200mW red look impressive. 100mW Blu-ray looks a lot dimmer. But it does look very cool projected onto glow-in-the-dark things...

well when i use my front surface mirrors i drill a hole half way through the back of the mirror this way i dont get a hole in the middle of my mirror i would recommend drilling a hole rather than shooting a hole through the mirror with a laser

Using the laser to cut the mirrors was a way to easily end up with balanced mirrors. As I posted above, I'm going to get some thinner acrylic and cut 2 circles for each mirror, then glue them together. The back one will have the hole, the fron one won't. (This also allows us to use glass mirrors instead if we want...)

p.s. The laser cutter works well on acrylic mirror. But it must be cut from the back, before the grey backing is stripped off...

The white nut-thingy in gas lighters are good for mirror mounts. With a hole and everything.
I harvested several little motors out of some old cell phones I had laying around. Is there a graceful way to remove the little vibrating knob at the end of the motor shaft? I've killed a couple of them trying to brute force them off with some plyers. Or should I just cut them off with a Dremel?

i love the idea of you making these pre-built and selling them! i would most likely get 1 cause mine only has 2 mirrors and the motors shut off by themselves at random times, lol

I would like to make a recommendation. If you use gears that have one flat side you can mount your mirrors on there and has a hole for mounting onto the motor.

That works well for the larger motors you pull out of cd, dvd or cassette drives. The tiny little vibrating motors in cell phones have a metal "half gear" weighted attachment that is on the spindle pretty tight. I tried gluing the mirror to it but because it is off-balanced (by design) it creates an odd moment when it spins...

The hole in the weight generally goes all the way through. Use a shaft from one of the motors you killed and a small hammer to punch the eccentric off. That'll keep the shaft from bending. (BTW, if you do accidentally pull the shaft all of the way out of a pager motor, it is possible to just remove the eccentric from the shaft and shove it back in...)
Also, these motors are sold at Radio Shack if you kill one and need an extra.
