the dicro mounts are newport P100A-AC's... they seem to be no longer available but info is here:

VIZIX™ Series Standard Performance Mirror and Platform Mounts

they are on top of newport VPH-2 post holders and SP-2 posts

then they are mounted on a newport micro optical rails with newport MCF carriers... theres a 3" rail mounted vertically, 2x 6" rails mounted vertically and a 12" rail which is the main optical path

Mini Optical Rails and Carriers

mirrors are mounted on newport P100-a mounts, also theres like 4 MM-1's (or clones) for mirros and PBS cubes that are used for combining the reds and blues

think thats pretty much it... theres also a bunch of ThorLabs mounts that the vertical rails are mounted to... along with the post holders for the scanners... post holder for the shutter is attached directly to the breadboard

to be perfectly honest with you you would have to be pretty insane to make this your first projector, unless you have a lot of time money and patience, then I say go for it

also I need to take some updated pics, took out that 550mW 642nm laserwave and replaced it with a 1.2W 642nm KVant

On second looking, I know this type of setup won't be my first.

But in the future, after a few scanner builds, I would definately like to build one similar to this one!!!

after I got everything, probably like a week or two... as far as cost... probably like $15~20k

but it is varianced and has its paperwork so I plan on having it pay me back eventually

While flecom has gone wayy over the top (in a good way ) with his projector, it's possible to build a decent system somewhat cheaply. I've spent maybe $3000 on my projector so far, and I can get some beautiful colours, with around 1.7W RGB output.





Yeah, its a lot of money for a laser, but I too started out with pointers, but once you have a working projector, the possibilities are endless. Create your own shows (which you can even sell), hire out your laser and yourself for concerts etc. Like flecom said, you can make money back on them.

Not to mention just sitting back in a room full of fog with a bit of music, great way to fill an otherwise boring night.

Whats even better is they aren't even complicated in terms of electronics. Infact, you don't even need to know how to solder. Everything is "plug and play" almost.

flecom, I wonder how you adjust all those mounts without knocking others out of place? I find it hard enough aligning 2 dichro's, let alone all that, and in such a compact space too!

and dont forget I have to adjust the near field/far field of each laser by tilting the platforms the lasers are on and also to try and get the beams parallel to the base plate to make adjusting the mirrors/dichros less of a pain

also as far as the cost, remember I have 400mW of 473, which cost me as much as your projector

additionally the LT-1000 from OSLS (the enclosure) is like $2500... but it saves me doing a product report so I can do all my CDRH paperwork easier (100% legal shows)

That is the part I like the best after seeing a show from a projector, is seeing the optics and lasers behind it.

They are all very good but Stair way to heaven is my favorite

So that's what lasershows have become now- a series of meaningless frames pasted together, with no stream of coherence (pardon the pun) or meaning whatsoever. On a few of them the frames aren't even beat-matched (oh, come on, even a DMX show card can manage better).

You could be forgiven if it were a live show- those frames would be pretty decent if it were pasted together at half a second's notice, in the middle of an event and never having heard the music before..

Funnily enough a DMX show card could probably achieve the same. Now, only thing here is, with the QM2K, you don't even need to paste the frames together. If I'm not mistaken, the LD2K does beat-matching automatically, and LiveQuick/LivePro does it even better.

Forgive me if I'm being a little too harsh here, but once upon a time, lasershows actually had meaning, and weren't just a series of frames mashed together.

Ever seen some of dsli_jon's Dark Side of the Moon shows? They actually had meaning. The show actually fit the music. Here's a link, if you haven't seen it already.

And given the equipment and software you have access to, we'd perhaps have reason to expect better.

Of course, for someone that's never seen a laser before, it'd be passable. But why compare with the lowest common denominator? It could be better. The means exist for it to be better. It should be better.

And of course, a sincere thanks to Pangolin, and their 'revolutionary' products which are solely responsible for this race to the bottom. Without Pangolin, who'd be able to get away with mashing up a bunch of frames together and passing it off as a lasershow?
