I want to share the macrophoto's of the PL520 diode. This diode is the latest addition to our laserdiodes. Well at least to our hobbyists. :)
Like all the new diodes the package is 3.6mm. You have to see it in real life how really small that is. It is very tiny.

I want to thank ARGLaser for testing the diode and Daguin for decanning it. And of course to all members of the LPF who has contributed for the (murder)fund of the PL520.

Here are the pictures and they will reveal a little secret of the PL520 diode.
I hope you like it !

The diode on a copper module.

No markings on the pin side.

Look how big the aligator clip is. :)

Let's go to the center of the earth, euh diode. :D

Deeper...

DEEPER...

Almost there. Can you see it now ?

There is a number printed on the die, "041163"
I guest it is a serial number.

Dave also sent me a 3.6mm red diode. Thanks ! :thanks:

The die is a little dirty. I think a finger has been push on it.
The most forward lead is bend down.

Great work!

I guess we'll have to start looking for "serial numbers" on other diodes now

Peace,
dave

Superb pictures.... what camera/lens did you use to take such amazing pictures?

Hey great work! Does it still lase, curious as the wires look intact and the pins were soldered together? If it does, would you think of attempting any pics with it lasing (eg like piferals pics)
Anyway thanks for posting +1

Neat, thanks for the pictures! I'm surprised there wasn't any visible damage after what I put it through.

Ah so you did fry it? In pic 7 it looks like there could be some damage where the bond wire is connected...

I'm a little late to the party. amazing pics Blord. I am guessing these have everyone so excited because it's the first green color from a raw diode? In other words, this is not a very miniature DPSS? I assume so, I see no room for a crystal. these will make for better power efficiency and more stability than 532 DPSS? If all these assumtions are correct, I see why everyone's so excited. When these become cheaper I will likely snag one. hopefully by then they have perfected higher output ones too.

This is an old picture but the setup is the same.

I know what you mean. The diode wasn't build into a laser. If I have time I will taken some pictures of a working diode.
Btw your 16mm copper star has arrived. I am sending it to you right now.

This is the real deal. The green light is coming directly from the diode. No IR conversion like the 532nm DPSS green lasers.

Nope, but I fed it 800mA for a minute, heated it up to 60C and chilled it to 0C :p

Mind blown!!! What did you use to take a picture of your camera??!!?!! :p

Thanks for the comments. :)

That is an oposit lense configuration, very used in macro photograpy. there are also other ways to do it but what is most amazing is also the illumination.... anyhow you shure know how to take those macro pics...

Hey thanks Kot. Just checking you received 2 stars from Nitro on my behalf? Sounded like he only sent you one?:beer:

That bond wire does look disconnected. Stick that sucker back on and let it rip:whistle:
