Last night I decided to have some fun and do something I've wanted to do for a long time and took a bunch of my lasers outside to photograph. Hauling everything out, setting up a couple stable display areas, providing power for the ones that needed it, and setting up my camera gear took a lot longer than I expected but was well worth it in the end.

All photos were taken with my Nikon D90 using an 18-55 lens. Most pictures are either 1, 3, or 5 seconds. A few were 10 to 30 seconds to really bring out the colors. I really wish I had a 35/f1.8 to cut down the exposure times.

I decided since everybody has seen the common wavelengths that only uncommon ones would be used instead. Some combinations have more than one shot due to different angles, exposure time, etc.

Lasers used:

JDSU Multiline Argon initially set to 50mw in light mode. 55mw after warmup. 488nm line is dominate at this power.

589nm CNI PL-III-C 105mw

473nm nmJetlasers PL-E Pro 100mw

543.5nm Uniphase HeNe 2-3mw after warmup

594nm HeNe ~2mw after warmup.

594nm, 543.5nm. The bright pinkish glow is the plasma from the ~2" of 594nm's tube that is clear glass.

Hope you enjoyed. I stayed up way too late doing that last night by the time I hauled everything back in.

Like the simplicity of the laser beams taken and brief description under the pictures.

The fact "not-your-typical" wavelengths were used during the photographing process make them pics even nicer.

I am digging the 589nm, thanks so much for posting these shots they are sweet.

Glad you enjoyed them. I've wanted to do something like that for a long time but kept putting it off because I knew it'd be "fun" to move everything. It reminded me why I don't usually move the argon. That thing is a royal pain in the ass to move especially if you move the whole thing as a single unit like I did. Sometime I'd like to get some mirrors and prisms and have some real fun with the beams but that won't happen anytime soon unfortunately.

That's crazy how you know exactly the wavelength of the laser pointer haha:tinfoil: I just bought a 445nm laser from Blord and I hope it looks just as sweet as yours does!

Heh. It's not to hard to remember wavelengths but remembering each laser's power is a whole 'nother can o' worms though. Once I get my new power meter I'm going to remeasure them and actually make a list of them instead of trying to remember each one's.
