alright alright fine...
I've removed what I said from that post.

If you just remove the quote.

So far this thread is leading to a direction where THIS comes to mind:
cut_video_card.jpg

Interestingly, I've *fixed* video cards that way... We have a client at work who bought 100 of these old IBM ThinkCenter's, but they need to run dual monitors on them.. For some reason they refuse to work with 90% of the video cards we put in them until I came up with the crazy idea that their PCI-E slot was actually 1x, and we were putting 8x and 16x cards in them... I took some scotch tape and covered all but pins 1-18 (IIRC), popped it in, and it works great. I've modded a few dozen cards now and have never had a problem. I suppose I could have dremeled them, but scotch tape was easier.

Wow. I never thought I'd see a post like this on a forum where safety is stressed over and over again.

Someone actually burning their own skin on purpose. WTF?

I guess it's only eye safety we're worried about? At least you wore your goggles while burning your skin, right?

I'm not LOL, by the way. This thread disturbs me.

Hmm, I think an increased chance of melanoma is possible.
I wrote an essay for college last year about this topic but forgot all about it.

I'll try to find it...

IMO, if a person is too immature to make up his or her own mind about whether or not it is a good idea to burn your skin with a high power laser, that person is not mature enough to own a laser at all.
I think eye and plane/other vehicle safety is different since many people do not know the actual dangers of a laser here and think "it's just a light" or "it can't reach that helicopter".
This is more like "should I cut myself with this knife or not". Unless it causes cancer or some other hidden threat, which I doubt since 405nm is still pretty far from cancer-developing wavelengths, I do not see the problem of posting this.
I read a few articles about melanoma being caused by laser treatments, but IIRC it was due to IR and they found out it was a condition which looked like melanoma but was not dangerous.

What I see here is a bunch of hypocrites. We've all burned ourselves with our lasers before. Just because you didn't burn an acronym into your skin doesn't mean you're off the hook. Come on.

Hey Nick glad to see you here. How've you been? Things working out for the better?

Back on topic, I fry myself daily. It feels good.

I'm decent. Still job hunting. Not out on the street just yet :p and my gift this year is just that: a roof over my head.

Honestly, its not a big deal, but some members cant handle it I guess.

I do agree with what humansymphony said, but some people aren't gonna see it that way.

Looks like this thread needs to be closed

On another note, i may possibly visit humansymphony this weekend, it will be swell. We'l record videos of his existance.

It's not a matter of being able to handle it.. (I''ve seen more things in my life that would make you cower in a corner like frightened child)..

It is a matter of responsibility.....

I've burned a wart on my finger a few times. There isn't any pain though since it's a wart. I wouldn't dare burn any other part of me though.

You're all a bunch of babies. This is nowhere near as stupid as a lot of other DIY tattoo options... I've heard of people simply slicing a deep cut in their skin, and pouring in ink... I've watched people repeatedly stab themselves with a needle... I've watched someone give themselves a scarification using a 60W soldering iron. People do these things without anesthetic, using dirty unsanitized tools. A laser is hundreds of times safer than all of the above, and likely much less permanent.

Anyways, if any of you have access to a professional laser cutter, you can produce whatever design you like, plus you get accurate control over the depth and intensity of the burn.
