Cause it was a stupid, unnecessary comment that suggests it would be a good idea to try and take out a security camera with a laser. What's not to understand?

i didnt say go do it or anything i was just stating a fact, i wasn't trying to promote robbing people. besides it wouldn't even be feasible

1. You make dumb comment.
2. User lands from Google.
3. User reads your comment.

Just one of the problems. Is this starting to make sense?

Wish I could see what it looked like after it'd had a hole punched through it heh.

Afterwards it's just black and crusty. This is during:

That's a great 'during' shot!
The video's are great too, almost artistic in look with the changes of color.
Laser-video-aurora borealis. Thanks for the sacrifices.:gj:

Ouch. Do these webcams use acrylic or glass lenses? Was it the lens that started smoking?

I'm sure they use acrylic lenses.. however at 10600nm, glass as going to be just as opaque as plastic. It'd just take longer to melt.

Yeah, you can sort of see it in the video from the cam that gets fried. It gives a defocussed red blur initially, i think thats just the lens assembly going up in flames with the sensor still working to some degree.

With a visible laser you'd leave the lens system untouched and burn out the sensor straight away.

As for the people concerned that this may give criminals an idea - it really doesn't. Only tech buffs would consider using a laser for a job that is much more easily accomplished with a can of paint or a hammer and a fraction of the price.

Its the same thing with people worried about tutorials for picking numerical combination locks on a bike - sure, it can be done with some training, but it will never be as quick as just cutting the lock cable with some concrete cutters. Most criminals don't take any art to they 'work' :D

Nice Video, but I think you should first shine 1 sec at the camera, and see how it do, and then 2 sec... etc and increases so it will help us see how the laser sort of damage the camera slowly :)

That video was kind of ... amusing ... in a morbid sort of way ...
Hehehe

I guess that's another scary thing to worry about if/when I ever get one of those "monster" 1W+ lasers. That I will share my apartment with a new family of holes.

... will have to shut the cat up in the bathroom whenever playing with light that strong.

I guess indoors, they should be activated just BRIEFLY to insure they are working, but mostly they would be used OUTSIDE.

I'd hate to be this guy's roommate. I mean, I have no great love for my crappy old furniture, but I don't want holes burnt in it either. Or the drapes.. or any of the other random household items that were getting burnt.

I honestly half expected him to 'illuminate' the helicopter at the end.. About the same kind of mentality.
