Yes.
I removed the diode from its holder but did not de solder the arm yet from where it was attached too. Then I heated up the bottom of the casing as quick as possible and it came right out.

I have the same power supply.
Mine does the same thing with a short between the leads.
It clicks and disables the output until the short is broken.
I use it to test tons of diodes, no problems.

I wouldn't want my power supply to do that without having the possibility of turning it off. My PSU has plenty of protection features, but they can be set. If I wanted a few amps into a very low impedance load my PSU should do that without problems.

I does not sound cheap.
For an everyday hobby PSU this one is fine. LIke I said many use this same one or similar.

I will make you a video what it does.
Not sure if you can hear the clicks in the beginning but that is what i heard and what scared me.
Then i did what you show in the picture and it shows the full 5A not only 700mA.
So that is what it does.
I dint know that there is safety features against shorts with the supply that should prevent damage to the supply. I feel better now.

I read your post wrong.
What i was saying is that this was the sound that i heard when i was turning the currant when i had the diode hooked up.
Turning the Currant just keeped going up Voltage was at zero IIRC and i heard the click.
Anyway so Ill let you guys know when i find out whats up with the diode.
I should have the 250mW one in today or tomorrow.
