Nothing real special... This is the laser engraver we use to mark the enclosure lids for a product of the company I work for.

It's a Laservall 20W, air-cooled, DPSS Nd:YVO4 laser.

I liked that one. Is that burning the anodizing off aluminum?

since it's DPSS Nd:YVO4, i'm guessing that it's 1064nm? :-? Why not use the 808mn instead? It's more powerfull....

Switch,

808 LD have crappy beam specs. but it makes a great pump sourse. for YAG/YVO crystals
and about 30% output to input power. ;)

I just thaught that 808nm is a shorter wavelength and would be better for engraving, and that the direct output from the pump diode higher. But you;re right, ussually the beam coming out of the crystal is way better especially than the multiwatt multimode 808nm diode ::)

Pretty cool.. but i'm a bit puzzeled about the strange route the laser takes to engrave this - especially when filling out the letters int he end.

 Are you in Memphis or does your company provide those to Comp Cams?

The reason I ask is that I have several friends that work there. ;)

Yeah.. It's pretty ridiculous. I think it's like that because that's how the engraving software traced the original graphic artwork which was pixelized. I've done a couple of others by using vector art as the original image and then exporting to HPGL for import into the engraving software. It works much better.

I work for Comp Cams in their FAST R&D department but I'm not based in Memphis.

Trying to get ahold of 20 Watts of 808 with a lens would be almost impossible. Let it drive a crystal and you have a beam which can be focused.

That was really, really cool. I'd never seen one of those in action before.
