Here is my latest YouTube video of burning random things with my new laser. Yeah burning stuff with lasers gets old, but that's what the users like so I'll continue to upload them...lol.

Here were my honors of today:

Power output and wavelength?

I think your comments said 1W of 445nm, so I'm going to go with that :D It's so beautiful!

445nm somewhere around 800mW. Yeah I cheated on the title a little bit, but it will be past a watt within a week. :D Once I get my AR coated glass lens I'll really kick up the power to it, I'm thinking maybe 1.25 Amps and seeing how long it lasts.

Very beautiful lab laser :)... what is the value of the beam divergence?

Very cool!

Post a photo of the hole you burnt in the wall while shooting that video!

Not sure about beam divergence, a very rough guess would be about 1.5mRad on the fast axis.

Yes that is a modified computer power supply. :D

And no holes in the wall, just some burnt off paint...you really got to watch where the beam ends on these things. Yesterday I was messing around with it when focused to infinity and I didn't see where it ended, and when I noticed it was pointed at a paper bag it had already burned through it and marked up the wall.

LOL;) Saturday I was working on a build, when I got up to go to restroom. When I returned, I found a smoldering paperbag. In the two minutes I was gone a hole opened up in the clouds, the sun shown through the skylight though the magnifying glass that's mounted on my helping hands and burnt the bag. Only an hour earlier my wife said "I'm going shopping. Please don't burn down the house".:) Now I have to make sure and set the table every night.lol

Beautiful laser! I can't wait to build mine.

Ah well, it demonstrates what these diodes can do very well - hope to be able to join in the club soon too :)

That is one great video, too many laser videos are sloppy and bad, I really love that video.
Nice laser.

umm what you mean by burning stuff with lasers gets old. you speak alien to me :D
I mean years and years of lighting matches and popping balloons gets somewhat boring, but adding new burning tricks is definitely fun! I'll be adding more videos of this laser soon, I think I may have fried my laser diode by using an Aixiz acrylic lens being impatient waiting for my glass lens. I kicked up the current to 1.25A in anticipation of the lens. :D Hopefully it will get a decent lifetime at that power.

Thanks for the comments everyone! Any ideas for the next video?

I'm not to into burning anymore, I am fascinated with watching the beam in the night sky.
I am thinking of keeping a laser pointing to the sky above my house every night, I could do it because planes don't fly directly over my house.

That's a terrible idea.
1. You have no idea if planes fly directly over your house, or not! You should never assume something that could end up with a felony charge against you!
2. What's the point??? Unless it's really powerful you wouldn't even be able to see it, and if it is powerful that's just more danger of hitting an airplane!
There are a bunch of other reasons not to do that, but I think those two should be sufficient.

BTW awesome video Styro!
