Awesome Spiro Pictures

I had some spare time and a trashed computer case to scavenge so I figured a spiro would be a quick project.


This was done as a really half-assed quick project.  The two motors were scavenged from the CD player of the PC and my plan was just to epoxy everything down.

That being said, it looks pretty sharp.  The anodized aluminum and scrap acrylic match very nicely and it looks very fancy.  Not so much from the back though:



You can probbably see where the aluminium and the potentiometers came from, this was the case I took apart:

The thing doesn't do too many patterns but it sure looks nice.  Onwards with smoke!









Switched to a more powerful green which overpowered the other colors so I just dropped them:




I only decided to do this since someone said that a spiro is something every person should have (forget who...). After building one I absolutely agree. I have added building a 3-4 motor spiro done properly to my list of things to do.

Very pretty! The spiro will always be one of my favourite builds, the multicolour patterns look superb.

nice build, how long did it take? and could you post some pictures with the lasers attached to the spiro, or where they just positioned loosely for the pics?

Beautiful job! I need to get some pots like that.

Entire build was probably 10 minutes of work and an hour or so of letting the epoxy set.

It looks nice, but that's just because its on a piece of aluminum.

The three lasers were just sticky-tacked onto the table behind the spiro.

How did you get so complicated patterns?
I have a 3 mirror one that can't get nearly that many?

Fantastic pictures, those must be some really fast motors to make such complicated patterns! I love the multicolour but even the green alone looks awesome!
Surprisingly good looking spyro build too for a "half-assed project", but that computer doesn't exactly look trashed? :-?

Thanks everyone, the picture of the case was just from an online site, its the same model but mine was more worn down (been in the basement for a while). The materials make it look great but everything was just epoxied down in one go so its somewhat out of alignment etc.

The motors go pretty fast, I ran them up to 12V and they definitely can go faster than a fan since they aren't trying to move any air.

All the patterns are basically the same thing, mostly variations of this with 2-5 "petals":

The long exposure times make the patterns look a lot more fleshed out and capture several revolutions.
