I knew there was good news when the title changed! :) What was the electrical issue?

Oh and how much are you selling it for? :) :) :)

Don't know what the issue was, swapped out the x-drive with a fresh one and it's fine now. The old one is having no trouble powering an M140 without making sounds. *shrug*

This build was sold before it started, it was custom made for someone. I did it for the cost of parts and shipping + 150$.
Needless to say the cost of 3x diodes, 3x lens', 3x drivers the custom host and the cost of the optics to combine the beams was not cheap :p

It took many, many hours to assemble but I really did this for fun and proof of concept.
I would've built it for myself, but what I like is small, colorful and bright beams in small packages. :D
Big & powerful really isn't for me, they scare me too much.

Congrats on the 6W mark, ARG! This really is a most impressive build. I cannot imagine (yet) taking on a build project like this. I can hardly wait to see the finished product!

We all want pics lol...and is your Mits PIV chart typical for them? Troubleshooting mine(450mW(3-ele) @1050mA). Just a little off topic curiousity.

Damn ricktrent4 you slingin CO2 lasers a lot or what?

Also, ARG, Daguin is selling some 20W/10W LPMs from Scientech in his Inventory Clearance sale thread for 300+shipping. Pretty good deal methinks. Course if you don't like the super power builds maybe just send it to someone to have them meter it.

how many hours went into this beast?

Probably around 100, 1-3 hours every Saturday/Sunday since January plus some time in December. That's a very rough number though, I should've kept track.

Knife edge 6 9mm 3 on each side and a PBS. :)

Would have to go vertical then else it would be huge :p Not sure about knife edging in such a small space. It's already a challenge to just use a PBS.

I think I'm done with multi-diode builds though (of a single color), they take a lot of time to get right.

Not from my experience, but I have been told this by someone else: The mits diodes vary greatly. The more recent diodes have not been as good as the ones in the past.

I've don't have as much experience with the mits diodes, I don't want to use them in another build until I can get a laser with an optical tray for correction optics.

I have a 150W LPM if you need some one to test it for you.

Thanks for the offer :) but I have to get this off to the person who bought it quickly so it arrives before he needs it. Also paying twice for a large, tracked, maximum insurance, international package isn't cheap :p

Did someone say "Real Genius"? Awesome ARG!!!

Thanks! :)

I have a heatsink for my Ophir, so it can do 20W but I don't know what the maximum power density rating is on it :p
I'm going to be buying (another) LPM soon so I've got that covered. :)

Those 365's are great meters though. I'm surprised Dave hasn't sold all of them yet.

I test a lot of 100W 808nm bars, working on a 20W to 40w 445nm laser gun. hope to have video in 2 to 3 week

Dang dude...20W to 40W?! You should add cooling of some sort cause hot damn that would be hot. Search AnselmoFanZero on youtube and look at some of his creations. His metal work may give you some inspiration.

DANG thats roughly $1.50/hour! You offer some really good rates :na:

Hey Arg, how about turning each of the diodes on in turns, measuring them and summing it up? The fact that they're not on at the same time shouldn't affect the power, as long as all optics are in place..

Congrats on a great build!

That's already what I did,

I measured the blue's together at 5.35W and I measured the red alone at 700mW.

All after optics.

Add that together for 6W :)

Yeah, if I were to do something like this again that is one thing I would change :p
I've need to buy my own mill and machine tiny mounts so I can adjust the optics., that would cut down on the time. I already have the lathe so I could make my own multi-diode hosts then too :)

Ok, help me out with the math. I may just be wrong in assumption, but I wonder if there wouldn't be some increase in final output with all 3 diodes? It would seem to me with an exponentially greater number of photons slamming into an object simultaneously, that the ultimate energy dissipated (watts) would be (slightly?) higher. Or, is it simply an additive number of additional photons with all 3 diodes? Doesn't seem intuitive though to expect total output in watts dissipated would be more than the sum of the diodes' possible, individual output. My brain hurts..
