Yeah this thing really really rocks. It has a custom focus adaptor, Jayrob Lens, Rkcstr driver, and 3 protected RCR123A batteries. It has a GITD rear clicky with optional momentary or constant on/off. It puts out 600mW and burns like a beast. This is IMHO the best violet laser I have ever owned. This was a fun little build. Special thanks to Rkcstr, Ehgemus, and Jayrob for the parts. You guys are awesome.

Looks great, but how long will that diode last?

Re: 600mW EHGEMUS W/Focus adaptor

Probably forever, but when/if it dies I think it will be much cheaper to replace the diode as the cost of blu-ray burners will drop. Everything else is already paid for. It is a slide in module so it will be very simple for me to pop out the dead diode and press a new one in.

Looks nice.

Just curious, why go with the rkcstr driver for this build?

Re: 600mW EHGEMUS W/Focus adaptor

3 RCR123a Batteries = lots of voltage, maybe more than a flex can handle without additional components. Also I prefer to solder onto the Rkcstr driver. The solder pads are nice. Plus it is cheaper. The only time I ever consider using the Flexdrive is if I am using a single 3.7V cell. Which is not very often.
The Rkcstr drive with this battery configuration will maintain the current all the way till the batteries need charging.

Why wouldn't I use the Rkcstr drive for this build?

Re: 600mW EHGEMUS W/Focus adaptor

Because it gets really hot, has less run time, and less stable.

werent 2 cr123 enough? or would that be to low volt for a 12x? just a noobish question.

realy sick looking host:drool: and 600mW damn looks like really cool laser

edit: P.S. also got beamshots?

Re: 600mW EHGEMUS W/Focus adaptor

Hmmmm, I have measured the current while operating this laser and it is very stable. I think that maybe these drivers only become unstable when they not provided with enough voltage. As for the run times I am unaware of those limitations. What are the recommended run times on rkcstr drives? I am keeping this thing on short duty cycles anyway though as it is over-powered.

Yeah you can use 2 CR123A batteries but like Bryce was saying the driver will become unstable and current will sag with the batteries voltage.
I will try and get some beam shots and videos later today.

cool thnx for that fast answer im currently asking ehgemus to make me a nice custom host to for my future 8x or 12x ill better ask him to make it 3x cr123 instead of 2:san:

Re: 600mW EHGEMUS W/Focus adaptor

Well it is working for me. It is also working for Sandidge Patrick. He has this lasers twin. I built two. One for him and one for me.

What current is yours at yobresal? And what current and power is Sandidge Partick's at? Thanks!

Re: 600mW EHGEMUS W/Focus adaptor

I just lowered the current on mine. I already have a 575mW blu-ray that is holding steady at 440mA current. This diode does not seem to be handling the heat so well. I have lowered it to 450mW at 360mA current. As for Sandidge Patrick's I have not tested it with a high efficiency lens so I do not know how powerful it is going to be when he gets it but it should be close to 500mW. His is set at 365mA and with an aixiz acrylic (back opened) and puts out 390mW +-5mW

Re: 600mW EHGEMUS W/Focus adaptor

How could you tell the diode wasn't handling the heat so well? Fluctuation in power levels maybe?

You are very lucky to have such a nice build. Congrats :)

Re: 600mW EHGEMUS W/Focus adaptor

Yeah pretty much. I wanted to test what Bryce said about the driver having a short run time so i left the laser on while shining it at my meter. I noticed a sudden and considerable drop in power. I immediately turned the laser off. At first I thought this was the driver issue so I hooked my DMM up to the laser while I shined it at the meter. I repeated the process and sure enough after 1 minute of on time the same thing happened yet there was no change in current. After discovering this I completely disassembled the laser re-soldered all of the contacts and lowered the current. I knew I was pushing it but I have pushed 3 diodes to 440mA without anything like this happening before. It is now steady and happy at 360mA
