Anyone know where I can get some stepper motors? need to be 5v but if anyone knows a site I can get them from, preferably based in the UK, please post them!

Still on my quest to make boomdogs x/y scanner, he ignored my emails so I resorted to posting after searching the net hundreds of times. Ebay are no real use for this kind of thing.

Any big electronic components/parts store should sell them, AEG is on brand that seems quite big, they make mini and micro steppers. I started collecting parts for Boomdogs scanner, but stopped once i realised it is better to spend a little more on a set of 10k galvos, lasershowparts.com sells a good set. Good luck

I've recently become obsessed with making an XY scanner.

I see the boomdog scanner used ministeppers. And have considered small servos...

I know that obviously the best way is with the galvos.. but how good could a servo or stepper motor be?

Servos as far as i know will not work, they use 3 wires, where as steppers have to seperate motors in one housing hence the 4 wire, steppers with more wire tend to have more complex circuitry. If you can get mini steppers, but as i said before 10k galvos are only a bit more expensive and worth it, less hassle of building all the electrics.

If they the similar as CD drive steppers they should, just check that it has 4 contact wires.

ummm yeah unless your steppers are really fast and move smoothly(which they won't), the "pattern" or whatever you are trying to do, will have "lumps" where the steppers are pasing over their steps. some of this may not make sense, let me know if it doesn't and i will redo it

True the speed is'nt going to be great on steppers and you wont get the smoothest movements. Found a cheap set of 10k galvos on chinesedepartmentstore.com, i think i;l be ordering them soon.

Doubt there are any cheaper ones around either are there? Everyone seams to think that £67 is way to expensive for it... If I get it and go for the second cheapest delivery option it works to about £75.
