For everyone who saw the motor I pulled I finally threw something together. It's more of a modern art steampunk hybrid I guess, call it what you want. I think it looks pretty cool. This is the simplest of three I've got planned. Right now I've only got green going but soon it will have four colors, 638, 445, 532, and 405.
I will add photos as I have time.

Pretty cool set-up... I'd love to see some of the projection once you get it dialed in.

Cheers,

I just learned how to post images here with Photobucket, now I need to figure out a way to do videos. As soon as I get it figured out I will post one of it running. Last night I got four lasers to balance on it and had it running with 120mw 532, 500mw 638, 2w 445, and 1.2 w 405. The blue was a bit overkill but it still looked fantastic. I need to build a lower powered blue now.

Nice looking setup, Jeff. That thing looks awesome.

Where's the drive motor? (Or are you just turning it by hand?)

Also, what's the big silver ring for?

This silver ring is just there for added dimension to the motor. It needed something on top for visual balance IMO. This is just the first cobbling together, it will likely change.

The brass device with the gears has an electric motor inside, it plugs in the wall and turns all by itself.

Very cool looking, well I guess it's settled you have to post a video now !

Make a video and put it on YouTube and then you can put a link here...

What's the easiest and/or best way to post a video here? Keep in mind I don't think I've ever posted a video anywhere beyond texting one from my iPhone to someone else's iPhone.

I am headed off to Lawrance Steel this morning to pick up more scrap metal for my sculpturing on this thing. By tonight I should have it completed and then I will post some videos.

How did you cut the granite glass??? .

It's not granite, it's just textured glass bought from Hobby Lobby in 12" square sheets. It's sells for $4-10 a sheet but if you watch carefully they will have sales on this glass about once a month for 30-50% off.

I used a simple hand held cutting tool with the little metal disk on the end of a pencil like tool. I used a string and Sharpie marker to outline a circle then went at it wil my tool. I score one side about four times and the other side once. Then, being very careful not to cross into the inside of the circle, I score several lines outward from the edge of my circle to the edge of the glass radially. With a gentile tap using the ball on the other end of the tool I crack off the unwanted glass outside my circle. The tool also has three slots on the end used for gripping the edge of the glass so you can snap off small pieces. I'll take a picture of the tool later. It's a simple process that just takes patience and time. If you get in a hurry you'll waste a alo of good glass, trust me on this. Most important aspects of glass cutting are proper tools, proper planning, and careful attention to detail and taking your time. Otherwise it's as simple as pie.

Here some pis of my battery powered miniature lumia and star field projectors.
Tried to make the small and very portable. Robotic motor drives and pwm motor
speed controllers. They will run from .1 rpm to 12 rpm and will run for hours on just 3 volts
( 2 aaa batteries) Take a look.

The way I post videos is I upload to youtube and then put the video extension between (yt) and (/yt). Just use brackets instead of parenthesis.

Very nice! I really need to make one of these.

For a lower powered blue, use the osram pl450 80mW diode. It can output > 200mW.
