Ok well to answer your questions

color doens't matter, you can do both if you do it right

power, the stronger the better for visibility. but I test mine with 5mw first

motor/fan speed As high as you can get because the faster they move the more patterns you can make.

There is no set "chi" for this yet it's just try it and if you like it let us know.
Personally I just changed ideas. I followed suit with another forum member and purchased a Pioneer LD-660 Laser Disc player and am going to use the mirrors from that.

just go with what you think looks best, even try to get fancy and try a multicolor spirograph =P
this was made with a 100mw red and a 75mw green, combined with only a cd case

I havent tried one of these yet, but am definately gonna try it out. A little trick you may like when using hot glue. Sometimes it likes to come off (vibration etc), a quick permenent fix is, after you hot glue parts, place a drop of crazy glue where the glue meets whatever its holding. It will spread on its own and still give the non-rigid bond of the hot glue.
Another trick, to remove hot glue, when you want to get hot glue off simply use the fuel oil (non compressed) lighter fluid. Commonly found in yellow plastic bottles used for Zippo type lighters. A drop of this and the hotglue will pop right off. No scratching prying or damage needed. :)

Now that I think of it, penetrating oil would probably work just the same.

You don't want the vapors of the crazy glue to get on your mirrors tho or you will loose some of the effect. I wouldn't use crazy glue close to any lenses or mirrors.
