Some of the veterans are aware that I was feeling the need to do something for me. It got to the point where all I was doing was for others. I took a bit of a break. This is the first result.

I purchased a used laser show projector from KGB_Productions a few months ago

http://laserpointerforums.com/f39/fs-400mw-rgv-scanner-dac-51283.html

It had a pretty much useless violet diode in it at the time. I swapped the violet out for a 445nm diode. Of course, the current setting for the violet was not nearly enough for the 445. It has this driver set in it.

http://www.ctrnd.com/NormLaserShow/RGBLaserDiodeDriver.htm

In order to kick up the current, I had to mess with the resistor on that channel. I got it up a bit with one effort, but it still was not doing much. I had to turn down both the red and green to match it. I tried some other things and have finally got the blue channel up as high as I can use it with the green and red channels it has. The green channel is maxed right now and the red will actually have to be pulled back a bit. My white is still a bit "pinkish." In order to get any more out of it, I will have to replace the resistor set AND set up a double diode for the red channel. This will probably stay just the way it is now ;)

I have not pulled the scanner controls and shined it into my LPM yet, so I cannot tell you what the total output actually is right now. Also, I am using "cheap" I-Show software right now. It is fine for beam shows, but will not do graphics very well :(

Oh well. QuickShow (Pangolin) is on the way ;)

So here's what I've been up to

OK. I'm no AndyCon, but here it is

Here's my next project

I will bring this back to life with four colors and very little hot glue ;)

Peace,

Wow. Full-color lasers always astound me.
They are simply beautiful, I could watch RGB/RGV shows for hours.

-Dave, good job doing something for yourself. With all the help you give to others, you deserve a break.

I need one of these.

And to get my show software farther down the road. :)

looks good mate.

your white seems very red/pink looks like you need more green in there

Is that rotating beam in the first video due to the refresh rate of the camera syncing with the beam rotation speed? It makes for a very interesting effect. Very nice projector too, it looks like a maze of wires inside.

Yeah. The way it is configured now, I can only pull down the red a bit. In order to get more green, I would have to replace the resistors. Unfortunately, I do not have the knowledge about how to calculate the correct resistor to make that work. That would be to simply make it balanced at this output.

In order to kick it up, I would have to install a double red in it. I had most of the parts collected to make one at about the 800mW level. Then the 445nm showed up and my life was no longer my own :(
Also, in the interim, I have prety much decided that for the one I build from scratch, I am going to get some faster galvos.

The way that this is set up, altering the lasers included would be a pain. I think that I will balanced this one again at the level it is and take the limited experience away from it.

That is an effect in the I-Show software. In the beam shot that I chose to use for the video, that rotating beam is part of the effect. It can be sped up, or slowed down, or stopped, but with this one, it is there. Not all of the beam shots/shapes have the rotating beam effect

Yeah, the wires were in that condition when I got it. I thought seriously about re-routing and "cabling" the wires, but I did not remove it from the case to work on it. It was a lot like building a ship in a bottle working through the front and the rear openings. I ultimately decided that the purpose that this was meant to serve did not require that it "look good" inside ;)

Peace,
dave

a bit of a necro post but not bad.
Are those stepper motors for a beam show scanner? if you got links to some of those please send them my way

good choice on quickshow, you wont be disappointed :)

get yourself some flexmods, you wont regret that either

LOL! Yeah. QS is a world above the IShow.

I believe that this one will sit as it is now. I was already collecting parts to build a projector from "scratch" before I decided to play with this one. I have a 300mW 635nm that is going to be part of it. I was sort of held back by the cost of 473nm lasers (what I have is less than I want). With the advent of the 445nm diodes that is no longer an issue. Green has never been an issue ;)

I will never be out doing shows commercially, so I do not need to go much greater than 1W anyway. This one was to learn on and to test whether I really had an interest in building one or not. I do :)

The next one will be built from my parts and will actually be something worth looking at the inside of :) (as opposed to the spaghetti and hand bent bars that this one is). I am waiting on the mini case GB over at PL now. I also need to pick up some faster galvos.

Peace,
dave
