Hi All, just a reminder to anyone interested in attending SELEM. You have 10 more days before the entrance fee jumps from $75 to $100. The entrace fee covers 4 days of the event, plus a shirt with the SELEM logo.

If you're not sure what SELEM is, it's the 8th annual get together of laserist at an auditorium in Newton, NC. From August 14th to August 17th. Here's a short demo of the kinds of things that occur: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wxxRwKYMLeY

Hope to see you there!

Z

edit - here's another video, sort of a behind the scenes thing, as you can see it's rather layed back! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yp9jhe8WvwY

And another of the setup of "Club SELEM", along with everyone's hero HAK! The big white regridgerator thing is a speaker! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BU0hFkNCUr0

Heeeeyy! I'm in the second vid at 0:37 chillin in a chair :)

I'll be there, just have to secure a room, and ride(s). I think I've got one. So will likely reserve my spot in a day or so.

Just so you know... it takes a HUGE amount of work just to set this event up
and some come without any gear while other bring a truckfull- which equates to a lot of work on their part loading to come and unloading when they get back home- they do this for ALL who attend and in return those who can should be offering to help in any way needed- to do that all you need is to ask- WHILE SHARING KNOWLEDGE IS GREAT IT DOES NOT GET THE SHOW SET UP OR TAKEN DOWN.

LAST YEAR my round trip total was about 44 hours-- as I first drive to dallas to catch my ride-

so come early (wed morning) and stay until the last load is in the trucks and trailers-
its the best & least you can do for those who give up in some cases good paying gigs to drive to SELEM to do thier shows for free for US - a BIG scarifice by them so we need to show our appreciation by helping with the grunt work- IMO the two most in need of help is our DJs 'Ragdoll & Co.'(they EXPERTLY play two venues for us at no charge) and Brad B who prolly brings more gear than any other single attendee-- or just find buffo and ask him where help- is needed...

I hope to go some year. I think I would feel out of place though, among the much more knowledgeable members.

By the way Hak, is that you with the epic white beard?

you are both wrong-- nobody at SELEM will treat anyone differently-- I had the
same fears - and almost did not go as the member I was carpooling with had to bale at the very last minute(apt- got ganked the afternoon we were leaving.

So I knew NOBODY there- but all were so very kind- & I was made to feel very welcome--
you will not be judged by your gear=age= or what forum you use the most-
ITS pretty easy to get with others 2 weeks or so before the event to find others to split room/suite costs-- and the staff there are extremely kind- we get a discounted rate and VIP treatment-- not have a car there is N/P- people are going back and forth a lot (about 10 min drive)
--frankly I was thinking that it was too soon for me to attend in 2009- but I was wrong and very happy I made the drive there even tho it was solo and I got a speeding ticket--doubtful that I would however , drive it alone again(17 road hours)

commit by sending in your shirt size & $75- Then figure out the best way to get there==THEN worry last about lodging- it will all work itself out--
trust me--

I would love to go some year but the drive is hella long and the trip would likely be close to 300 dollars. I don't even have that in my bank account at the moment.

I'm not sure about making it this year. I might be working in Ohio when the event rolls around.

yes $300- or more- we can begin now to arrange a car pool for 2015 from central TX-
so gas split- lodging can be as low as $20 each per day- 75$ for the event and shirt-
I dont count food-

handhelds do not sell well there unless prearranged-the BS &T room has mostly parts- cases-optics-

Fortunetly all there are honest people so we do not have to 'sit' on our stuff nor pick it all up each night- the place has an all night guard-anyway I do not count much on my sales at the event-- any way you cut it a week of work will be lost-- but I have NO regrets-- as there is no other place like a LEM and SELEM is the best & biggest-

Its a lot like being a lasershow roadie with three days of 'dress rehersals' being allowed to view/photograph from anyplace we like and it goes on about 16 hrs per day- then there are the company demos- and seminars- and the door prize drawing- some items (like the QS FB3 that AixiZ sends with me ), are worth 500+$
the friendships are priceless- SELEM is networking at its finest--Len

Hmmmm...this event is looking better every time I look at vids from a past one. I can't make 2014, but I think I'm gonna save my lunch money and make 2015!

We have an E-150 "Church Bus" van (two rear seats) that can carry 5 besides the driver. It doesn't get great mileage when fully loaded, but split between 4-6 people wouldn't be so bad.
We also have a 6'x12' cargo trailer that has been converted into our bedroom, complete with generator and air-conditioning. We can HAUL A SH!TLOAD of people and gear, and live right onsite!!! (We haul camp gear for anywhere from 10-17 people a few times a year for RenFaire events.)

You from Texas who attend...we'll talk more about this over the next year.

If anyone in the Virginia area or nearby states needs a ride let me know a few Va members plan to come this year.
I will also do another route to selem map if there is any interest.

Dat's What I have been saying forever--

When I see you - lets take some pics- I have a 4x8 open untility trailer and have been thinking about building a 4x4X8 waterproof box for it. AND a 16 ft mini camper for TEXLEMs--

There is NO reason , with so many members in TX that TEXLEM cannot SOMEDAY be as big as SELEM has grown- it takes organization and hard work but each year most grow in size- more $$ and more help--
