Well at that price point I'm aware of only one good option: Spaghetti + EasyLase or RIYA. The combination of Spaghetti software with a RIYA or EasyLase DAC makes for a fairly powerful option.. FAR superior to ishow.

I believe that drlava can help you with the purchase of an EasyLase or RIYA DAC.

Spaghetti is QUITE noob friendly, and it's very capable.

drlava is a member here, but sometimes it takes awhile to get a reply from him. Send him a PM and he'll get back to you as soon as he can.

well the sound card dac has done me well.
dr lava sells the correction amp as a kit.
price:
20$ sound card
40$ correction amp (can be built for around 15$)
so thats about 60$ for a dac.
and then LFI player is good and its free, but Spaghetti sounds better.
Also a must is ilda sos. also sold by our DR lava.

so you can start with the sound card dac and LFI for around 35$ if done with no kits or 60$ for kits.
Then LFI is free, upgrade to Spaghetti later.
And buy ILDA SOS to help make your animations and images better. (this is a must.)
i have been thinking about buying a riya dac but am unsure if it will be a big enough upgrade from my sound card to make the cost worth it.

I'd buy a RIYA multibus lite + Spaghetti. It's about $270 total.

grix,
do you know if that riya dac will preform better than the sound card dac?
The only plus i was given was that when you turn it off all the channels wont go to full. but that other than that the sound card dac is equal in most cases.
But that whole channels going into full when turned off can be fixed by adding a few transistors.
So i have never been able to find any reason to buy one.

The sound card dac with drlava's correction amp won't scan very wide at all. It's far from ideal. But a proper built sound card dac performs about as well as a RIYA, however the RIYA is much easier to configure and doesn't require building. It aslso supports more software natively. Plus it's only $150, so not much more than a proper sound card DAC.

I would suggest not buying from ebay. Look at cheap sellers like spacelas.com, laserking etc.
ILD SOS is a program made by Drlava. It optimizes and converts laserframes.

out of those projectors I would only probably pick the second one. The first is a shinp and I had a bad run with that brand (red and purple lasers dying within hours of runtime).

The projector last in the list has much weaker lasers than the second one.

The second one is branded CASA. Quite funny as CASA stands for "Civil Aviation Saftey Authority" over here in AU!

Yes, software runs on the laptop. Laptop powers and controls the DAC. ILDA cable carries signals from DAC to laser projector, which controls the galvo's and lasers to produce the lightshow.

Yes but it could have been a bad 1/100 unit you owned...
The second one also seems nice but no photos and no model number info.
Laserking has alot lasers but not one at my budget with ilda.
I dont know spacelas...will check with them before i buy.
I buy within 10 hours from now:)

The sound card dac with drlava's correction amp won't scan very wide at all. It's far from ideal.

If you replace the supplied +/-9V DC-DC converter with a +/-12V converter the scan angle is increased to a similar level as any other DAC, differential or single-ended.. so there is an extremely easy and cheap fix. In the sound card DAC tutorial I linked to a direct replacement for the drlava correction amp from Murata.

It's called ILD SÔS. Google it. It's not necessary at all though, it's just nifty to have.
