Scanners on eBay?

Hey guys, I've been looking around at eBay scanners at the moment. This is so I can buy a cheap one to mod out a bit with a more powerful laser, and eventually maybe a new scanning system! Looking at how the professionals build their scanners seems like a good idea before building one from scratch yourself :)

So anyway, I'm not really an eBay kind of person, I don't use it much. I found a few nice DMX systems for cheap I could mod:

But this one took my fancy a lot more. What do you guys think of this system?

Also, if any of you guys who have been searching scanners on eBay for ages know of any good deals, I'd be grateful if you posted them :)

Thanks!

Yeah, I'm very interested in that last one. Seems like a fairly good 10kpps scanner.

And for an extra 117 pounds, you get the software and the PC to ILDA/Scanner interface to make all those animations. That's what I'm curious about. Is there any alternative to that? Like, a cheaper PC to ILDA/Scanner interface and some free software? Or another way to have that scanner with a PC interface for making animations?

So if someone with a lot of scanner experience could come and scope out that deal I'd very much appreciate it :)

Nice find with the last one, thats the sort of thing I was looking for apart from I need RGY.

I would go for the last one if I were in your position, you have more options for moding it. The first ones dont have ILDA so its all good having a laser like that but you can't do much with it in terms of effects.

Well, I don't think the last one has ILDA. It's just compatible with it. You need to pay an extra 117 GBP to get an ILDA system that will work with it.

That's what I think anyway, need someone with lots of scanner knowledge to figure out if the scanner can make animations and stuff on your computer without that extra stuff, or if you need it :)

Im not an expert on scanners but from what I know not many scanners come with ILDA software, you can pick up a fairly decent scanner for around £250 that has ILDA and built in animations and such but you would still need to buy software so you can use the ILDA connections on the scanner.

Im looking at a RGY scanner myself at the moment, its £280 and has all the ILDA and everything but it doesn't come with ILDA software which is the main reason im holding back on it. Although there are lots of DIY DACs around which work with free software but it will never be as good as Moncha and the likes.

Would this software be reusable? ie; we get the software here and now and we can use it for every ILDA laser scanner from then on?

I mean, overall it's about $500 USD for the 30mW 10kpps scanner, the ILDA software and the USB to ILDA box. If the software and box can be used for future scanning projects, then this would be quite worth it.

What's it take to turn, say, a ScanPro20 into ILDA compatible?

It's all down to the DAC I think. Not all DACs will work with certain software but as long as your using the same DAC and it supports the right scanning speed it will work on any one.

I would suggest the same scanner I am getting. It's on Chinese Department Store for £250. Its RGY putting out combined 260mW and has 20k galvos.

I think if I set that up at home for our random weekend parties I would be of godlike status!

That is seriously tempting

Well, unless someone comes with some better options or a good reason why this isn't good value I'm going to purchase it. $500 USD for a 10kpps scanner with everything available to produce your own ILDA animations is fairly good. It's only 30mW, which is tiny, but I've got a 140mW green labby ready to go in its place :D

If you're going to bid on this 666DAN, make sure to let me know first :) There are 5 available, so there is no point getting in to a bidding war over the first one and wasting both our monies :)

I might use it to earn a little pocket cash on Uni campus, plenty of parties around, so something like this would be pretty cool :) Especially after I rig a laser 5 times as powerful in it :) And since animation is part of my job, I should be able to make some really sweet ones ;)

Your choice mate. I work $500 out to be around £270, the same price as the one I am looking at which has 20k galvos, RGY and a total of 260mW with ILDA, compared to the same price as the one your looking at which is 30mW, single colour and 10k galvos.

Well, I said if people can come up with better options I'd certainly reconsider :)

So does yours come with ILDA software and a box to link ILDA to PC, or is it just ILDA compatible?

It doesn't come with software or hardware but its ready to be set up with one and has all the connections ready.

Full specs off the top of my head are:
20k galvos
260mW Combined RGY
Animation/beam show
Preset animations/beam shows
ILDA connections
DMX/Stand alone mode
Sound Active

Will get the link for you in 30 seconds.

EDIT:
Oh crap, the price has gone up on this...

Ok so the one your interested in is rather good price wise compared to what I was getting. Take a look on the site though, theres one called Super1 on there thats 60mW I think with ILDA and such for around £170.

No probs mate, I'm not going to touch this one just yet....I've got the 100 x 803T's on the boil now, so don't want to go too OTT with laser products this month lol

Whatever you get let me know how it goes as I'm dead keen for something like this...the wife can know when it's in hand ;)

Well, it's 117 GBP just for the 30mW 10kpps ILDA compatible scanner. It's an extra 117 GBP for the PC to ILDA interface box and the software.

By the looks of it the scanner there is just ILDA compatible. Which means it can just play preprogrammed stuff until you actually buy an ILDA to PC interface box and the software to link it up to your computer. And those things aren't cheap :)

That's why this deal is pretty good, because you can get the ILDA to PC interface box and the software as well, which you need to use ILDA :)

If you get it then buy it without the DAC.

You can get Norms DAC pre built for £60 or a DIY one which just needs assembling tor £40 I think it was. Its a USB one as well so all you need to buy is the USB cable and ILDA cable.

Its just software then, try Norms Laser Show software. It's free and I have been playing about with it and it seams pretty easy to use.
