Not bad.

The scanner only has three effect modes on it, that being sound active, auto (cycles through all the pre-programmed patterns 1 by 1 and the DMX mode. With a DMX controller, for the DMX mode, you will only be able to select the pattern you like and change the size or rotate it.

If you wanted to make your own effects the scanner isn't really the best choice, in fact its the complete wrong choice because it has no ILDA inputs.

But for the price and the fact its a RGY, its not a bad unit.

trust me - i would not have a clue where to start if i wanted to make animations.
Are there any cheap DMX controllers, or would i have to spend loads on it?

its very simple to turn any projector to ilda.

all you need is a 25 pin parallel connector

that scanner isnt that great. its got stepper motors not galvos, so wouldnt both with ilda

LOL not much!

im currently at work so cant really tell you till i get home.

that scanner will work fine, but you wont be able at a later date to add ilda option.

so if your not planning on doing that dont worry.

stepper motors are two slow for dac's

It is?

The ILDA just connects up to the galvos right? That would save me a lot of money.

Cheapest DMX controller I have ever found is £60, cant remember the link but it will be first page on google when you search DMX controller.

So in theory I could buy some galvos and a laser, connect them to the ILDA connector and then to a DAC and it would work? Just would need to be plugged in when being used?

Hey,

Andy, could you not just hook one end of the 25 pin connector to your laser and the other end to the parallel port on your computer, install some laser show software and off you go ??

yes you have to have adac but you can make your own for not that much money.. still though this steppe motor will not be ilda compatible.

you would later need glavos to make it work
