Wow... those are some truly amazing pictures.

While I'm no fan of the heat, I think this is something I have to do in 2012.

Love to have ya! It is insane, and as cliche as it sounds, life-changing if you make the most of it.

The heat wasn't bad at all this year, or even the previous year. The humidity there is extremely low, so it is enough to stay out of the sun to stay cool, as long as you're hydrated. You'll be out all night, so much of the day you'll just want to sleep anyway. Bring some sort of reinforced shade structure (reinforced to hold against the wind) to cover your tent and stuff so that you can sleep in the morning (to block the sun) and stay cooler during the day. A costco carport works wonders, but make sure it's tied down well so the wind doesn't make it a large kite.

Also bring some warm clothing (long pants, sweater) along with your costume so that you don't get too cold during the night.

Finally, bring some damn lights, preferably some LED lights to put on your bike (bring a lock and use it), and your body. So many people kept walking around at night without any lights and I nearly ran into them. It was terrible!

As for the article... I gave it little credit to begin with, if it was so bad, it would not have become a popular tradition to begin with.

Yeah, that wasn't directed against you. Rather, I have seen some people purposely trying to direct traffic to their "articles" with some rather lame lead-in like "wow this was an interesting article about BM!". It'd be like someone fishing for traffic by putting up a misinformed "critique" about lasers on here.

there ain't no video?!

Videos just don't capture it very well since most of the lasers there are not putting on shows, but just adding to the atmosphere. I also hesitate to provide videos or many photos because people should see the place for themselves rather than have it spoiled. The friend that brought me to BM for the first time was really wonderful about not revealing anything about what I'd see, feel, smell, or hear. It was all new, and I had no expectations. The pictures above are just a mere fraction of a fraction of what you'll experience.

Well... I couldn't resist, I did find some pictures of it... looks fun.

I think like a lot of things in life, it's what you make of it. To me a days long party in the middle of the desert sounds fun:D Although when I go my handhelds and light are definitely coming.

Crap... I haven't ridden a bike in years... might have to buy one:eek:

Do have tent and air mattress, etc, from camping trips.

Lol... looks like a place to wear my pimp outfit:p

I did bring my 445nm, but used it sparingly and carefully. There is so much dust floating around that it is the ultimate place for beamshots.

One time people were trying to focus all their laser beams on an exact point (~200ft away) of a structure to be burned during one of the burns. I don't think it managed to cause a fire, but it was a neat attempt and fortunately not too bright to cause eye damage.

Remember to bring all the luxuries you think you'd enjoy, because there is a lot of room, you'll be using a car, and you'll be missing having them. Oh, and remember shade structures if you plan on getting any decent amount of sleep.

I'll definitely bear that advice in mind when I got... and I'll dig out my bike from the closet where it's buried at some point:eek: I used to love biking. Not sure why I ever stopped. I guess because I started driving everywhere:undecided:

I thought about the dust issue... basically when I got out, and there is potential that there will be a lot of dust, and chance of damage to the lens, I always take those laser that have an aixiz lens. Even if there is damage, it's no big deal to replace it.

I wouldn't worry about that dust harming your lenses, even the plastic ones. That dust didn't even scratch my contacts. I took them out, washed them down and put them back in my eyes good as new. The worst thing that can happen is that the dust just gets in everything, and doesn't rinse off easily with water (it's alkaline, so you need vinegar). Cameras have been known to seize up from the dust, but that's because of mechanical failure.

Bring some canned air, and if you need to physically wipe down something, wash the surface with a wet towel, and then wipe it dry, otherwise the dust will accumulate on the surface, or the drops will leave stains.

Thank you so much for sharing your photos of the clock project at BM 2011!!!

I just saw a documentary on BM, and it has really made me want to participate and go sometime. I know my uncle has been there before, and he lives down in Phoenix. So this may be more possible than I had thought.
