in order for me to figure out how your basic spirograph works i went to Spencer's Gifts in my local mall and purchased their Mighty Mini Laser, which is a hand held spirograph. it has 2 potentiometers and 2 switches that revers the spin of the motors for even more patters, it has a manual mode where you can control the pattern, subsequently it has an automatic mode that runs a series of patterns over and over. it also has a demo button on the top that runs a "demo" of the different patterns. overall i would have to say that this $10 hand held spirograph really helped me to better understand what a spirograph is, because no matter how i try and look at it, i'm a nooblette. but thats ok because i learn and adapt quickly.
