Hobbiest scanner

I am looking for some help working out the best solution for a little project I am doing. It's a simple star-field generator written on a raspberry pi, with or berating binary systems and starting to introduce some basic gravity interactions.

I always had it in mind to eventually project it so it generates an x/y array of points + a brightness value (2000X2000 array).

My question is what's a good way to get the stars on to a wall? Currently the array has about 2000 stars, but I hope to increase this to about 4000. So I'd like a projection system that can place at least 2000 separate point at a reasonable frame rate >15. Ideally small and quiet, and straight forward to set up. Don't really want to build from scratch. Also the cheaper the better, .

Use a computer projector. Really. You can buy one of those pico-projectors for cheap and connect it to the Raspberry Pi and be done with it. It's easy to interface those on that platform through the computer monitor connector.

Laser scanner systems are for drawing lines, not points. Even the best systems only achieve about 60-50k points per second, and those are not individually placed points, but rather parts of curves/lines.

Cheers for the reply, so now I need to find a pico projector with decent resolution, if possible laser, and very high contrast. In other words I want the black to be very black. I don't suppose you know any manufactures to look in to or theses to avoid?
