Hey guys I looked inside my RGB and I was wondering about 2 things I couldn't tell what they do...

optics_trayS.jpg

Are the two round unlabeled modules both red? The other two are tagged with wavelength as the Blue and Green diodes.

Is there any good reason for them to have put in 2 modules instead of 1?

Whats with that crazy kinda clear cube thing in the middle of the works?

I know what the dicros are / do and I understand the rest of the projector just never seen those bits before.

THanks.

They are both red. Your projector needed more red light than one diode could give. The cube is a beam combining cube. It turns the two red beams into one red beam

Thanks :) Man I didn't realize all these crazy optical things existed and they totally blow my mind every time I see them.

Is that the projector from Dinodirect? It looks to be better built then I thought.

Yup that's the Reke 500 from Dino. I added about 8 pics to the review thread of the insides of it if you want to see the rest of the internals.

The wires are nice and tidy, everything is solid inside and it looks like they actually screwed a lot of things down rather than just hot glueing and hoping for the best.

I honestly have no complaints about this unit at the price I paid for it... I have an audio DAC on the way so I will be reviewing thhe ILDA support on it as well soon.

I need to get me some of those crazy optics to paly with :)

Seems pretty nice - but that combining cube looks like its just glued to the baseplate and could come off with a good knock. By the looks of things the reds and cube are the baseline parts, with the green and blue mixed in using adjustable dichros... a good reason to make sure that cube doenst come off, it might prove a pain to reposition it.

I think it very well may be... I tried to adjust the dichro on my other Chinese projector and that glue ate like 3 of my screwdrivers. I don't know what they use in that Chinese glue but they could probably hold the space shuttle together with it.

Anyway I won't be doing anything to it that should knock it loose. Regardless it's a $200 RBG projector (that works pretty well) so what the heck can you really expect :p

For that price i wouldn't complain either - its not like you could build it better yourself for less money. I'm actually a bit surprised that they use 3 diodes to get the claimed 300 mW of red... a single diode could have come close to that power level without too much effort.

I reckon this projector has quite a bit of 'overclocking' potential in both the red and blue lasers - no idea about the green though.

These projectors are damn cheap for what they are, I remember paying the same price for a bodgy 140mW RGY stepper scanner on eBay like 4 years ago.

2 of those would make nice satellite projectors for my main 1.6W RGB :)

Yea supeer good price... My r g y stepper unit cost almost as much and I bought it only months earlier.. This one totally blows that out of the water and is amazing for the price.

For what I use mine for this is perfect... If I was running shows and stuff I'd get something fancier.

i was surprised too to see two red diodes in there. I suppose they didn't want to push it too hard with one diode and added a second since reds are cheap. Mine shipped on the 11th so I'd assume it'll be here probably ztuesday or Wednesday. I'm eagerly awaiting his testing with the DAC he ordered. The price for a complete DAC and sound card is damned nice.

Really you couldn't even build it the same for that kind of money even if you used the cheapest crap you could possibly find. It's only 2 reds I'm assuming the 3 is a typo.. and I have no idea why they did it that way... For myself in my house the (probably 300 mw total - complete guess) it's putting out is already overwhelmingly bright and underclocking it would be best for me, however I don't wanna mess up the color balance.

I would have thought they would do whatever was cheapest rather than caring about what worked best or lasted the longest.. In any case the reds are quite powerful.

I can't remember how long EMS took for me the one time I used it but you are probably right and worst case by the end of the week you should have it.. I am quite interested to hear other peoples feedback on the unit and if they are as happy with it as I am..

Hopefully have the DAC mid week.. I already have a pile of ILDA stuff from PL so I will be running tests as soon as I get it (and of course there will be videos). I would love a copy of Spaghetti but I can't afford it right now... Hopefully Gary will have a good sale again soon or I will have to accumulate funds and buy it in a few months.. In any case I will be trying out all the free ILDA software and doing a full review (and maybe a tutorial) on my experience with it.
