Is there a relatively inexpensive way to get some experience with laser projectors? I have never worked with galvos or the software but I pick up things fairly quickly.

Or would it be wiser to start with 30k galvos and only a single color and then to just add to it later?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Brad

EDIT: currently reading andy_con's scanner building info which is VERY helpful

Im currently looking at the scanners on ebay and I have a quick question

I see that the Kpps varies with the angle. Some say they are 20K galvos and then the specs say 20Kpps at 20 degrees. Others claim 30K galvos and then say 30Kpps at 8 degrees. What is the standard scan angle? When people reference 15K, 30K, 60K galvos what is corresponding scan angle?

From what I've read the "K" value is often misrepresented, like most Chinese lasers.

aaaaaah ok that makes things a whole lot more fuzzy

Why do they always have to pull that crap...

How does one know what they are getting? Are the ebay units crap?

I'd go to PL and ask for recommendations. Or PM ElectroFreak, or some of the others here who have experience.

I cannot speak for the quality of the products, but I know laserwinkle is a reputable seller. 20Kpps laser scanning galvo scanners ILDA | eBay

Most galvos have charts that state the scan speed at different angles. If I recall correctly the "standard" angle for comparing galvos is 8 degrees. Looking at the chart for those 20,000pps galvos, the scanrate is ">30.000 pps" @ 8 degrees.

Cheap chinese galvos will always be of low quality, however for just experimenting with there is nothing wrong with them. I haven't upgraded my cheap chinese scanners yet, but I plan on upgrading to some less cheap, but still chinese DT 40 wide.

i'm also pretty sure that the faster your galvos are rated and the better quality they are then you can increase your scan angle.
