Install a PC power supply in the case. Then you can power all your fans and any other items you may end up throwing in there. You can get the fans from DX.

Ok. I'll try to find one of those. What should the dimensions of the case be? 14x17x4? I really have no idea. Also where can I get the fan covers? The silver grates that you can screw over the fans.

I'll go look on DX.

Thanks

I once saw a massive guide here on how to build a DAC + scanner. Switch, do you have it?

Speaking of dacs, I just found an ilda port some people may find useful. I plan on using it. DB25 Female Connector for Field Termination - DGB25FT

it takes the soldering out.

I was reading on pl that to tune the soundcard dac all you had to do was plug it into your computer as if you were going to play a show, but then you can just "zero" it. Can anyone confirm?

Thanks

You can use any types of fans, but they say use brushless because on some off chances, sparking could introduce interference.

Don't use a computer PSU unless you have a crapload of room, a tiny SMPS would work well, as fans do not draw much at all.

The case is entirely your choice, but leave room for expansion if you find a good deal on a red or blue :)

I found a case on maplin: Aluminium Boxes : Instrument Cases : Maplin

I should be able to bolt my lasers and everything down to it pretty easily. Do you think i should buy another piece of aluminum to bolt everything to just to make it a little more sturdy (i think the walls are 1.5mm wide).

Their biggest case is only 51mm high. That isnt even close to enough...Im going to email them to ask for a custom case.

Does anyone know how i can cut holes in this fairly neatly? Would it be time to break out the dremmel?

@things: I need 4 power supplies: 1) green, 2) red (it runs off of 5v dc so i would probably get a 5v ac-dc adapter) 3) scanners, 4) fans. How could i create these 4 from an input like this one: IEC Fuse Chassis Male Power Plug with Switch - Jaycar Electronics

I dont know what fans im going to put where. If i get a custom one from maplin i was thinking of having two 40mm fans on the left and right sides of the case(that blow air in) and maybe 1 or 2 bigger fans on top to suck the air out. Do you think that is overkill? will the ones on the side be enough?

Also, I had some free time today so i started working on the sound card part of the DAC. Above the usb input there are 5 holes. Which holes do i solder wires to? I think the far left and the far right and you have to bridge the two grounds. Mine doesnt have any words on it so im kind of lost.

Im off to read andy's guide again...

Thanks guys! Once i get this case figured out ill order parts!

I cant see if anything is bridged. Is it just a wire from the far left and then the two farthest to the right? Im sure ill have more questions once i get all of the parts...

I found some fans. They are all brushless and all run off of 12V. Would it be possible to power them all from 1 power adapter? How would i do this? Also would it be overkill if i had two 40mm fans on the left and right sides(sucking air in) and 1 120mm fan OR two 80mm fans on the top(blowing air out)? Would the 40mm fans on the sides be enough (one side sucking in and one side blowing out?)

Thanks

The connections you're talking about are the power connections behind the USB port on the sound card correct? If that's what you're referring to then the left-most pad is 5V positive the two right-most pads are both ground. The other ends will go to marked terminals on the correction amp input.

Also, regarding fan layout, use what makes the most sense to you. You have to be creative about your designs, that's the best part. That's what makes it your design..

Huh...it didnt post my reply..Ok..again:

Ok thanks. Ill do that tomorrow and post some pics before i hotglue it all together. Once maplin emails me back ill start ordering parts. Im making a list of everything i will possibly need. Cables, ports, fans, power supplies, everything.

Yeah...I think ill have two 40mm fans on the left and right and two 80mm on the top. It should be plenty.

Thanks

You can get small computer PSU's. If you have plenty of room, sure, use a computer PSU, but they are wayyy too bulky for most projectors. 1 computer PSU would be 3/4 the size of my whole projector!
