AHOY!

Hey there mates.
Ive been playing around with my laser for around a week now.
Generally just pointing at stuff and using it as a handheld laser engraver.
It was fun,but i want more :)

A few days ago , I came across loads of laser shows vids on YouTube.
Such as this

I want to have my own PRIVATE LASER SHOW!!!
I started scopping around the net and I found quite a few setups... that cost as much as a CAR!

It got me thinking.... is it there an economical laser projector that can do something similar..or possibly even make one ourselves...

I am quite limited in my electrical skills since Ive primarily spent half my childhood tinkering with basic RC models that doesnt really require any in depth programming lol.

So please dont bombard me with too much electrons eh

Those are still going to require very precise scanners and whatnot. Follow his advice and PM Hakzaw1. Tell him clearly what you are after, and he can offer you advice.

it's not too hard to make a laser projector.. especially if you're just interested in beams..

personally, i'm much more interested in abstract shows:

i'm happy to answer any questions about the build process.

I was at that Energy in 2011, I posted a bunch of vids of the laser shows. the only problem with my vids was that my cam didn't pic up the bass too well.

this next one is a vid I took from a festival the day before Energy. Major crowd scanning in this one.

I'd do as others have said and PM hak, see if he has any of the Chinese projectors left over from the group buys, or if he's running more maybe.

Building one yourself is fun, but buying a pre-made one from China is bound to be cheaper if quality isn't really a problem. If quality is a problem, then I'd start setting aside some money now. About $3K should cover it :D

3K?????? :wtf:
That cost about as much as a 2nd hand HONDA JAZZ!!

Is there something more on the $300-500 USD range lol?

your choices are basically:

1) cheap and crappy
2) expensive and slightly less crappy
3) really expensive and decent

on the other hand, the labor of love and learning curves that is the process of building a projector is very rewarding.

So is there something with LOTS of utility?

So.. at the beginning , you have marginal knowledge with regards to laser projectors . Your pockets isn't that deep. So you build a basic laser projectors on the platform.

At intermediate stage, you are more knowledgeable in the matter , you have more money. You expand upon the projector and start incorporating more sophisticated Arduino designs.

Later , you got the basic know hows about the laser projector. You now wishes to experiment with it .

So basically , a single laser projector that can be constantly upgraded and evolved without needing to start over from the ground up :D

is there such a thing?
