CL-16RGY scanner review

5 to 3 converter ?? Whazzzat ?? Looks like time for rat shack clip leads.. I have the cable that came with my projector --- its 3 to 3..........

I thought I needed the USB cable and the provided DMX cable.

I've run my RGY in my back yard and it is bright. How big is the room ?? Tell it to reduce the image - that will tend to concentrate the scan.

the back of the laser accepts 3 pin, but the output from the DMX box is DMX standard 5 pin, so they sell a converter that goes 5-3 pin. don't worry if you didn't order it though, it's just a matter of wiring it up, no circuitry needed, you can use alligator clips if you like, but it will be kinda messy, but who cares ;D just wire them up like this.
the 5 pin output on the DMX box:
pin 1= pin 1 input on laser
pin 2=pin 2 input on laser
pin 3= pin 3 input on laser
pins 4 & 5 aren't used

i'm not quite sure how big the place is, but he says its pretty jam packed when they are all in there, so it's about the size of a small theatre. i could be wrong though, but i'll have to check. yes i was thinking of turning the scanning size down and just moving it over the crowd, but there is one pattern that i think will look pretty cool in the room. in auto mode, have you seen the pattern where it shoots little beams everywhere randomly? if you slow that down, it shoots big bright laser beams everywhere, which i think will go far in the big room?

The little bars ans swirlies are impressive. The green will carry the show.

The green easily outshines the red. That will be seen for sure. No problem though because many people have never "experienced" GREEN !!!!

NOW -- why the hell is there a five pin configuration for DMX ?? Two pins unused just to screw me over on the plugs. I'll make it work MY way !!! I'm old enough to recognize a scam...... Once I have control, I'll check CW power of the lasers.

actually i think they had a all green one last year, but not RGY so they are in for a suprise! i think there will be different people anyway? ;D "official" DMX is five pin, but cheaper lighting uses 3 pin because then you can use ordinary microphone cable. it's not that hard to change, but it is kinda annoying!

Will that DMX program you recommend run on windows 98 ?? I'm looking for an old notebook comp so I can go on my deck and amuse myself ( and distract the neighbors) ;D

i'll get onto him for you i did that once, you can see the beam outside without fog, it's awesome! i'm going in 2 days!! YAY! i have to find a camera to take now?

hey guys! i'm back!!! that was REALLY fun!!! the laser was definately bright enough! and the kids loved it!!! there was about 500 there on the night, but the hall was pretty packed!

i was sitting next to the other lighting guy, he was controlling the rest of the lights and i was just doing the laser. we had about 8 camera's set up around the stage, so i just have to wait for them to send me the dvd before i can post some pics. i ended up getting about $100 just for running a laser for 2 hours, which was pretty easy.
anyway pics will come as soon as i get the dvd
